I love open world games, I love the freedom to explore. But it does create some narrative dissonance for sure...

#LegendOfZelda #BreathOfTheWild

Game: Link! You must save the Princess and Hyrule from Calamity Ganon!
Me: BRB scaling mountains and finding koroks

#XenobladeChroniclesX

Game: We must find the Lifehold core and save humanity!
Me: probes go brrrrrr.

#CassetteBeasts

Game: I mean, maybe we should probably find a way off this weird island and return home.
Me: I made a Doggo friend, and they are precious, I will fight anyone who doesn't want to fuss them!

And #MajorasMask on #GameCube is now complete! It only crashed four times!

Majora's Mask ranks up there as my... fourth favourite Zelda? Maybe third... Sometimes, the order chops and changes. Depends on how much I am feeling the Warriors vibe or if I want Link's Awakening to be my second favourite 🤔

Either way, this game is still great. The format of it is fantastic, almost a little Rogue-Like.

Honestly, I would love for this game to be expanded, more masks and more conflicting time schedules, and dependant events. I get why this isn't done because I imagine the eventing could potentially become a tangled Web of nonsense.

Still. I will need to do the N64 version at some point, but it was good to finally beat the GameCube port. Credit to the team who achieved the port back in the day.
Perhaps soon, I will stream some OoT, but again, I still need to look into regular streams.

So, nearly there. Had a very productive day yesterday of collecting up heart pieces/containers and masks.

I still need to bank 5,000 rupees, but this is easy enough to do with the Light Arrows, which causes most enemies to drop a purple rupee if it kills them. Combine with Chateau Romani and you're pretty solid.

Unlimited magic was a mistake in a Zelda game.

So, I have a few easy heart containers to get, and with any luck, I am on my way back to the Moon tonight. This does mean I will need to do the Goron Rolling Challenge Room on the Moon and... Well... Traumatic is a nice summary of that...

But we'll be getting that and the Fierce Deity Mask and that will be the entire achievement list completed.
Honestly, despite the threat of crashes, the actual achievement list that was developed for this game has been a really good time!

After this is out of the way, I am going to go back to the House of Mouse, I think.

So, perhaps I have been reading too much Girls Love Manga.
But there is a bit of dialogue in #MajorasMask when you speak to Cremia whilst wearing the Couple's Mask.

She talks about a friend of her, who we know is Anju, and she is getting married soon... the interesting part of it is that she then says "too soon". (I need to grab a screenshot of this...)

We are also told that Anju and Cremia are best friends.

There is a lot of talk around town that hints at a Cremia/Kafei thing, Romani remarks that her sister is sad whenever Cremia goes into town, so she thinks she has someone she loves in town.

Talking to Cremia with the Kafei mask, she has a look of disdain on her face. Clearly annoyed with the rumours that Kafei ran off with her. Or perhaps she doesn't really like Kafei himself.

What we also need to consider is, Cremia offers Anju and her family shelter on the final night. This favour isn't extended to Kafei's family...

So, I had a terrible time in the Great Bay Temple, and it turns out the mini-boss to get the Ice Arrows is a miserable fight with three hearts. But I managed to grab all the fairies from the dungeon to get the health upgrade. So I was doing all that before sprinting back to Clock Town to get the Keaton Mask and a bottle.

I was actually late to meet Kafei to get into Sakon's Lair. But you can glitch your way past the door... So i was able to get the Couple's Mask.

I got the Elegy of Emptiness and activated the owl statue at Stone Tower. So now, on my next cycle, I can go fight Gyorg and clear Stone Tower.

So hopefully tonight I can do the Majora fight and spend a few loops mopping up side quests, masks, and achievements. With any luck, I will have Majora's Mask finished before the weekend, and then I can stop playing this terrible port!

This is one of the worst achievements I have ever gotten.
Not in the sense that it was hard. Not at all, I used an exploit to enter Sakon the thief's lair early... But, imagine going through the entire Kafei/Anju quest line and when Kafei finally makes it to the Stock Pot Inn at 4:30am, as the Moon is descending on Termina

Anju... Isn't there.

She didn't believe in him enough to wait for him. She sought shelter with her family and the rest of Clock Town. This leaves Kafei, all alone in the abandoned town... At least in this timeline, he won't be heartbroken for too long...

That's fascinating. The Zelda Collector's Edition achievement list on #RetroAchievements doesn't have a 3 heart challenge for Ocarina of Time, but Majora's Mask does! Heck, even Zelda 1 has an 8 Heart no red ring challenge. It just seems like an odd one to be missing.

I already did it once on the N64 list, and it is quite a good time. Learnt some useful combat strategies, which essentially boils down to Deku Nuts are pretty damn good.

The most "complicated" ones on that list are the Adult Link boss speed runs. And those shouldn't be too particularly complex. Will probably want the Big Goron Sword for that, though.

Perhaps I can stream this one.
I wonder if early Golden Scale works on the GameCube?

#MajorasMask is proceeding relatively fine despite two crashes last night, first in Woodfall whilst getting the boss key and the second in Snowhead as I was collecting stray fairies.

But we now have the Gilded Sword and I jumped back in time to nab Epona, access Great Bay, get the Garo Mask, hookshot, Captain's Hat, Gibdo Mask (skipping the Ice Arrow requirement to get to Ikana Valley Owl Statue) and got the Mirror Shield before going back to the Inn to meet up Anju and then off to the ranch to stop the alien invasion. A lot of ground was covered 🤣

My plan tonight is to get the New Wave Bossa Nova and Elegy of Emptiness, that way I only need to do one more cycle to fully clear those dungeons and I can be off to the Moon for the final showdown.

All the while, I am jumping through the hoop of having only 3 hearts... Damn you #RetroAchievements

So, a thought, if I wanted to do a current complete Mastery of the #LegendOfZelda games on #RetroAchievements

I am going to need to beat
Zelda 1: Four times (NES, SNES, GBA, GC)
Zelda 2: Three times (NES, GBA, GC)
Link to the past: Twice (SNES, GBA) *Done*
Link's Awakening: Twice (GB and GBC)
Ocarina of Time: Twice (N64 and GC)
Majora's Mask: Twice (N64 and GC)
Wind Waker: Twice (GC 2x)
Four Swords: Twice (GC and DSi)

And everything else once.

Ocarina of Time Master Quest
Oracle of Ages
Oracle of Seasons
Minish Cap
Twilight Princess
Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks
Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland
Tingle's Balloon Fight
The Ancient Tables (Link to the Past Satellaview)

Sweet jesus.
Thank God I really do enjoy the Zelda games, especially Ocarina of Time!
Though Zelda 1 and 2 will be a MISERABLE time since I have never beaten those.

Might as well thread this nonsense!

After we discovered a sequence break doesn't work in the GameCube version, I may need to get video evidence of this, I went ahead and cleared Snowhead temple, got the Razor Sword and Gold Dust. Not too bad for 12pm on the second day.

I will probably dip back into Snowhead and get the fairies and full clear Woodfall temple.

To overcome the threat of crashing, I am using the owl statues and copying the save file to file slot two. It's almost like making a save state!

Though, since doing this method, I didn't have any crashes last night. Maybe I have been unlucky, but the early game cycles are the most dense in terms of progress making, and I don't want to lose any progress!

Especially when I tackle Great Bay...

So better safe than sorry.

Oh... Oh no.

Of all the tricks and stuff I have used in the N64 version of Majora's Mask, the one that was still hoping worked on the GameCube Collector's Edition was the Goron Bomb Jump for early Great Bay access!

This trick is done by using a bomb to damage you mid-way through the Goron Ground Pound, putting you in a damaged, fallen animation with forward momentum. At the peak of the ground pound animation, before you come slamming down, the height and momentum allows you to clear the fence to Great Bay! This is a great trick to know for randomisers too!

I was well off the mark for single cycle Epona, but was really hoping I could still get Zora and Hookshot before I went back in time the first time...
Alas, I was very much mistaken.
