Oh god, I almost forgot #VGMWednesday

Well, it should be no mystery that I have been playing #XenobladeChroniclesX recently and that I have a teeny tiny obsession with the OST. Especially... the music in new LA.
I bet you thought I was going to say Uncontrollable. Which is true. I love that track.

But I have spent a lot of time quietly jamming out to the music in new LA. Especially the day theme.

Honestly, this is probably hit and miss. But for some reason, I do love this track. In fact, I think the entire game's soundtrack is an absolute treat!

I mean, I will be honest when I first heard it again after all these years I was hit by a warm nostalgia. And everything so far has just been a delight.

XCX has always had a "black sheep" kind of reputation among the Xenoblade games (lol it doesn't even get a number), and it long seemed destined to languish in Wii U purgatory, but now here we are!

Sadly I won't recognize any notable changes from the game's original release, including any retcons made to shove its story in among the numbered ones. I'm also only superficially familiar with the earlier Xenogears/saga games, if they're relevant here at all.

Continued thread

For background, I was introduced to the series with XC2 on the Switch, and—after my initial inability to understand what the hell was happening during combat—I loved it to death. Happily, the first game was then re-released as XCDE for the Switch, and I finished it next. I absolutely devoured XC3 on release, and so far it's my favourite of the series.

I had a tried a couple of times to emulate XCX, but never with enough motivation to progress past Chapter 1.

It's finally time for my playthrough (and abject overanalysis) of Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch.

This will be a long rambling thread, and I'll use the #JSSXCX tag so that it's easy to mute! And I'll CW each toot for spoilers.

I have done this before for #XenobladeChronicles3, collecting over 20,000 screenshots and discussing finer points of (the first half) of the game (so far), which can be read at bigraccoon.ca/articles/xc3

after another day running around Mira in #XenobladeChroniclesX I'm starting to figure out the game's systems enough to know what's good, what upgrades to spend my points on, and how to make a "build" instead of just upgrading random shit

spent a bit of time messing about with the customisable Soul Voices so they trigger more often and I can keep my parties health and TP topped up in battle

this game is very VERY good

A question about #XenobladeChroniclesX to whomever might know: am I blind, or is there no indication during combat of which party member is being targeted by the enemy? So far the only way I can tell is to see which character's HP is dropping the fastest.

(I've played the other 3 games in the series, and now here I am in X trying to manage aggro with a tank and finding it kinda difficult 🫠)
