I think the #Friendica experiment is over, for me. I'll leave the account there, and maybe poke at it again in the future, if updates are released.

@abominabledrh Over the past few years i've had various #Friendica instances [various servers (i do not self host)]. Some have been better than others, but all of them drove me bonkers with their latency. It was commonplace that posts i'd send could take minuteS to finish sending [vs instant in every Masto instance i've used], new posts arriving would often be minuteS behind in Masto [& for the worst instances, frequently several hours out of date!!!]. Also, two of the instances eventually failed with corrupted databases & so the instances permanently closed, another recently went offline for many days with a corrupted database & eventually could only be restored from an old backup [thus losing all recent data], another two instances were chronically unreliable for hours or several days at a time. All these PITA issues sucked the pleasure away for me, & were a major reason i eventually returned to Masto, despite the many advantages that Friendica does have. It's a pity.

Question for any #Friendica users: do you find it slow? I've only been poking at it up until now and I don't know if the slowness is down to the instance I picked.

Ich brauche Eure Hilfe.
Hab' mir auf meinem Yunohost eine eigene Friendica Instanz gegönnt, installiert mit meinem YNH Admin User mit dem ich mich auch dort anmelden kann - als Admin wie ich erwartete.
Nun kann ich das Friendica Admin Panel aber nirgends finden.
Kann mir bitte jemand einen Screenshot schicken wo das erscheinenden müßte, sonst müßte ich neu starten.

It's been 99 days since I started self-hosting my own Fediverse instances. Crazy how time flies!
I've been a bit absent from here this week because I started exploring the world of #PeerTube from the POV of a creator.
I just set up my own account on #MakerTube - so that I can write a guide that is accessible to many (as opposed to skipping this step and going straight to self-hosting).

I have been able to follow it from #Mastodon and #Friendica without a problem, but I keep getting an error message when I try to subscribe with my #GoToSocial username. The exact message: "Cannot fetch information from this remote account." Does anybody have the same issue? (as in: people on GoToSocial, can you subscribe to PeerTube channels?)

I for myself tried #friendica two times with different servers (and admins) and I was pretty underwhelmed. For several reasons. So I quit them.
I now really love #mastodon and I also use #sharkey from time to time. Sharkey offers some additional features and has a nice community, too. All combined in the #fediverse of things. I love it.
Maybe one day, I give #friendica another shot ... ;-)

@andreas_heitmann When I entered the Fediverse I quickly learned that Mastodon was very similiar to Twitter and a format I didn't like. That's why I now run my own #Friendica instance for taking part in the Fediverse. #Friendica feels like the good old #Facebook, with added features for better control of your timeline similiar to what Google Plus offered, it is just not really popular. Maybe because the "Facebook generation" (age 40 plus, having a job and kids and other things to worry about) has not yet discovered the need to move to something else. For now, I contiue developming my instance, maybe I will open it up to public participation later.

Eilen sain viimein haalittua loput kirjagram-tekstini ynnä tallentamani kirjavinkit parempaan talteen ja sitä myöten viimeinenkin Meta-tilini haihtui bittiavaruuden tuuliin tänä aamuna.
Mastodoniin on ollut helppoa ja luontevaa ankkuroitua. Alusta toimii hyvin sekä sovelluksena että selainsivuna. Ainakin mementomori.social-palvelimen kautta kirjauduttaessa selainversion tekstinkirjoituskenttä on tosin hassun pieni ja ahtautunut oikeaan laitaan, mutta sinänsä ajaa yhtä kaikki asiansa. Erityistä arvoa annan täällä väljälle merkkirajalle.
Friendica on alkuun ollut vähän hankala sovelluksena, mutta selaimella toimii erinomaisesti ainakin käyttämäni katiska.social-palvelimen kautta. Tuntuvasti selkeämpi ja näppärämpi kuin viimeisin tapaamani Facebook-versio, joka oli etenkin selaimella käytettäessä tuhottoman raskaan näköinen kaikkine joutavine sälineen.
Bluesky on sekin selkeä ja sielläkin on kätevä rakentaa itselleen mieleisiä syötteitä esimerkiksi kirja- ja juoksusisällöistä ynnä seurattaviensa touhuista. 300 merkin raja kuitenkin ärsyttää tuhottomasti eikä minulla ole sen käyttöön varsinaisesti muuta tolkullista motiivia kuin säilyttää yhteys muutamiin Metan alustoilta tuttuihin, jotka eivät ole vielä asettuneet taloksi näille main.
En tiedä, moniko on ylipäänsä tehnyt siirtymäratkaisunsa minun tapaani muista kuin päivänpoliittisista syistä. Tuntuu, että ainakin osa on vielä horroksessa tai jumissa Metan pidemmän aikavälin kehityskulkujen kanssa ja luulee tätä poismuuttoliikehdintää pelkäksi marginaalisen vasemmistolaisporukan ohimeneväksi Musk-paniikiksi.
Onhan tämä sinänsä lystiä olla kerrankin edelläkävijä omissa piireissäni, ei siinä mitään. Friendicassa ja uusimpana hiljalleen käyttöön ottamassani Bookwyrmissäkin leijailen vielä autuaan yksinäni autiossa tyhjyydessä.

Nach allem was ich bei dir herauslese und sehe @mina, in Sachen eigenem blog etc kann ich nur sagen du solltest dir #friendica gestern zulegen, ganz klar ein #fediTip fuer dich.

Ueberlegen hier einen Schnupperserver aufzusetzen, ist ein addon der aktiviert wird.
Da "fliegen" Nutzer nach x-Tagen automatisch wieder raus.
Wenn dich das interessieren koennte es ein Grund sein den aufzusetzen.
Eigentlich mag ich das mit der Selbstzerstörung von Posts gar nicht (Habe ich auch hier auf dieser Instanz - 3 Monate).

Bei einem diaspora Konto habe ich dem sogar einen Grabstein gesetzt.
Profil aufgerufen, als html abgespeichert und als subdomain wieder hochgeladen.
(ohh da, faellt mir ein, gibt da noch ein Profil das lange mausetot und verschwunden ist, der Server ist weg. Das werde ich gleich noch mal versuchen zu retten. Dezentralitaet ist schon was cooles!)
In Sachen Datenemengen, du kannst einstellen ob Bilder bei dir gespeichert werden oder immer vom Sender neu gezogen werden. Das ist eigentlich das ganze Drama. Reiner Text, in Sachen 1 Giga .. na dann mal viel Spass, das dauert Jahrhunderte. Und auf friendica kann mensch ja Bilder einfach einbinden, muss die also nicht hochladen bzw kann die wo anders hochladen:
Ausserdem bekommst du Gespraeche einfach anders angezeigt. Wenn @mina@mastodon etwas kommentiert oder faved sieht @mina@friendica den Originalbeitrag und den Kommentar bzw den "like". U.a eIne backupkopie auf deinem eigenen Server.
En otras palabras la @mina se levanta un aconversa en el bondi con el cellular y @elMinon se lo termian disfrutande de tarde o el fin de semana en la compu ..

Das Fediverse ist so viel mehr als nur #Mastodon. Ich zu Beispiel nutze noch einen #Writefreely Blog für meine Charaktertagebücher meines DnD Charakters.
Schaut euch um was euch interessiert, schaut euch nach einem neuen Zugang zum Fediverse um wenn euch der eine den ihr habt nicht zusagt. Ich feiere die Vielfalt an Zugängen hier im #fediverse, die alle irgendwie zusammenführen.

Ich habe gerade den "Leitfaden für den Instanz-Betrieb im dezentralen Netzwerk - Datenschutz bei Mastodon" von Stiftung Datenschutz gefunden.
Dieser gibt neben grundsätzlichen Informationen auf was Instanzbetreiber achten müssen, vor allem auch eine sehr praktische Sammlung an Musterdokumenten unter CC BY-ND 4.0-Lizenz. Ihr könnt es also für euere Instanzen anpassen und nutzen.
Auch relevant für @admins / @helpers
Auf einem abstrakten Niveau sind die Anforderungen, die wir beschreiben, auch auf andere Plattformen des Fediverse übertragbar. Dennoch gibt es einige Aspekte, die von der konkreten Plattform und Software-Implementierung abhängen. So sind zum Beispiel die Möglichkeiten, rechtliche Texte einzubinden und anzuzeigen, unterschiedlich.

Ich war immer mehr eine Facebook-Person als eine Twitter-Person. Auf X gibts im Prinzip nur Meinungsmache, leider ist das hier auf Mastodon auch nicht viel anders (nur dass die Meinungen andere sind). Auf Facebook gibt es Gruppen/Foren zu Spezialthemen, kein Zeichenlimit, mehr Möglichkeiten um wirklich mit Freunden Kontakt zu halten. Nun hab ich mir #Friendica angeschaut, das sagt mir mehr zu als Mastodon, aber da scheinen ja noch viel weniger User unterwegs zu sein als auf Mastodon?

This newbie wants to ask: how many VPS’s are too many for someone who has little coding experience and has been self-hosting for just 3 months?
Fedi friends, I’m thinking of signing up for a THIRD VPS 
Why?
My current setup:
5€/month Debian VPS with #YunoHost, where I’m self-hosting #GoToSocial (this account), #Friendica, #Pixelfed, #Fail2Ban and #LinkStack.
5€/month Ubuntu VPS where I am self-hosting my (upcoming) #Ghost blog (this will make me save a ton, compared to my current Ghost Pro plan).
Back to PeerTube: I could easily upgrade my #Debian VPS and install it there - the costs would be minimal and I would double my RAM and storage. But I am afraid of PeerTube’s consumption when it comes to bandwidth. As in: if I upload a video that for some reason becomes really popular, or if a bad actor decides to DDOS my channel, would that take down all my other self-hosted Fediverse instances? Since they are on the same VPS?
I could limit potential issues by having a dedicated VPS just for PeerTube.
What would you do?
And do you have recommendations for Europe-based VPS’s with affordable plans? (aside from Hostinger) I was thinking of #Hetzner…
