This message is from an immigration attorney, Renée, that I know personally. She has been working pro bono or pay what you can for all of the families she's been helping for the last year plus.

Despite working for free, she still works her ass off to help families avoid detention and deportation, and absolutely goes above and beyond as a rule.

Please consider donating or sharing if it is within your capacity. This particular client is Venezuelan, in removal proceedings (they agreed to have this shared), and are in need of funds for an expert witness to hopefully prevent said removal.

My friend Ahmad is having a hard time getting support recently, and he needs continual help so his family can get food. They're also saving up to get his mom out as soon as the crossings open so she can get medical treatment for her eyes. Anything helps. #directaid gofund.me/69f962fc

Re: The tornado path in #StLouis Missouri so-called USA. #STL is a very racially segregated city, due to the history of chattel slavery during and post-Indigenous genocide and westward expansion of the settler state. These neighborhoods that the tornado hit are mostly Black and very materially neglected and deprived by the systems that exist. The area is largely out of internet access now, as well.

All that to say. These communities are in a lot of need right now. People are missing, hurt, and without shelter and food. Here are some opportunities for #directaid:

Hate to beg again but I already knew the soles of my shoes were starting to wear flat and today I see the fabric is starting to separate from the sole entirely. I need replacements before these completely fall apart.

I'm a disabled, unemployed trans woman who has to walk a *lot* to get around. Access to good shoes keeps my joint pain down and given the paces they get put through, Boots Theory means trying to go cheap never works out for me.

Thank you. 💜

Actually, one more thing:

The difference between #DirectAid and #MutualAid is that the former can be withdrawn without any consequence to the person delivering resources b/c the reliance is all one-way

While for the latter, there is a relationship of *mutual* reliance and alternating indebtedness that empowers and makes vulnerable all parties so they can make demands of each other.

This is a good thing! But many people, even leftists ostensibly doing work for their community, don't want to give up their power and be forced to negotiate with others as whole people or engage in trade that carries with it obligations.
