Tomorrow our ten day #DIFF gathering in Freiburg in the black forest starts. Around 40 people from various projects, contexts and countries are joining ... And would you believe it? There is no date/clock scheduling to speak of, no hour slots etc
On Friday the 13th we might do live streaming sessions with talks and demos but the focus generally is on in-person hanging out and work, in a relaxed manner. Its still possible to join if you are of the spontaneous kind https://delta.chat/en/2025-05-12-diff-invitation

(As a side-note on this topic: I'd like anyone who is very into the idea that "GNU/Linux/POSIX ecosystem software is so great because of the philosophy of the tool doing one thing only and doing it very well" explain to me why diff
is shot through with options that do things like output C preprocessor macros. )
TAX_A
Warning w-#DIFF -0.67 TAX[TAX_A].Net-computed
Kann jemand erklären was das Warning bedeutet?
Triaging the Dublin International Film Festival programme to avoid wasting my efforts with films that will be getting a general release in a few weeks time.
I suspect that by the time the film festival ends I will be pretty sick of the ad for itself that the Dublin International Film Festival insists on showing before every one of its films.
Someday we will be celebrating the centennial of Unix utilities that we still can't shake #diff
@auschwitzmuseum : Horrible.
As is the fact that my grandfather's relatives, all Jews, were killed in gas chambers.
My grandpa was sent to a working camp in the province of Drenthe (and survived the war) because he was married to a Dutch woman.
Now there is a new concentration camp called #gaza - and criticizing Israel for its conduct is deliberatly called antiSemitism - which, in *my* dictionary, means prejudiced hatred of, and rethorical and/or violent actions against, *ARBITRARY* Jews. This prejudiced hatred of *any* Jew, regardless of opinions, religion, background, skin color, age, etc. led to the Holocaust.
Abusing the term antiSemitism for any criticism regarding the genocide that Israel commits now (extremely exceeding numbers i.r.t. "an eye for an eye") implies ridiculization, and even denial, of the #Holocaust.
I fail to understand why, notably the descendants of Jews who suffered in #WW2, now justify killing more than 13.000 children and ignore or deny (copied from https://www.unicef.org/press-releases/stories-loss-and-grief-least-17000-children-are-estimated-be-unaccompanied-or ):
"At least 17,000 children are estimated to be unaccompanied or separated from their parents in the Gaza Strip".
Last week I wrote "diff Auschwitz Gaza" in Dutch (see https://infosec.exchange/@ErikvanStraten/112189585169136089).
I'll try to translate that below:
————
diff Auschwitz Gaza
(Auschwitz = A, Gaza = G)
/!\ Supply:
A: Mostly daily
G: Plenty of stock (option: from the West Bank)
== Escape possibilities::
A+G: None (high fence, immediately shooting guards)
== Conduct of guards:
A+G: Relentless; rape, torture, theft of possessions
== Independent supervision:
A+G: None (access by independent watchers and reporters is prohibited; "Israeli parliament passes law paving the way for Al Jazeera closure"
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/4/1/israeli-pm-netanyahu-revives-push-to-shut-down-al-jazeera )
/!\ Agony:
A: Of short duration for nost (killed using toxic gas), otherwise forced labour and exhaustion, no communication with the outside world (hoping to be rescued)
G: Varies, usually long lasting, partially with serious injuries, exhaustion, occasional communication with the ouside world (realizing that the most of the world does *not* care about you in any way)
== Basic necessities:
A+G: Hardly any water and foodl; dehydration (G: summer is on its way), starvation, no medicaments, no sanitary means and provisions
/!\ Roof:

Wondering how to compare two binary files and display the differences? I got you.
**dead-ringer**: Binary Diff Utility with a terminal user interface.

I'm not sure why every film screening in the film festival is preceded by an ad for the film festival, given that the ad will only be seen by people who have already shelled out for film festival tickets.
Also featured is an idiosyncratic subset of the Dublin International Film Festival programme.
Note to self: maybe don’t link to a diff on @Codeberg from the fediverse :)
Apologies if the request is not loading for you (it’s not for me). I guess it’s being hammered a bit (it’s likely not cached).
Update: It seems to be loading faster now. Likely because the original post has scrolled off folks’ timelines. (Or maybe it was a coincidental hiccup.)
