"In 1941, #Britain and the #SovietUnion invaded Iran (also known as Persia) during World War II. The invasion, codenamed #OperationCountenance.
The joint operation primarily aimed at securing Iranian oil fields and supply lines to the Soviet Union, which was then fighting against Nazi Germany on the Eastern Front. Although Iran was officially neutral, its ruler, Reza Shah Pahlavi, was seen as sympathetic to the Axis powers"

"The invasion was driven by a combination of strategic, economic, and political factors.
The Allies needed to secure supply routes to the Soviet Union, as the Persian Corridor through Iran was a vital logistical artery. They also feared a potential German advance through Iran toward the Baku oil fields or British India.
Ensuring access to Iranian oil reserves was crucial for both the British and Soviet war efforts."

@rbreich my question to #US citizens: when do you realise that saying 'it's disgraceful' won't stop this & you ultimately will have the make the choice Europeans made during #WW2: you tinker & become an accomplice to #fascism or you join an active #resistance movement. There is truly no alternative.

PS: yeah maybe you are making the right calculation, after all, more than 90% of the German population survived WW2 (25% of Jews & 30% of foreign nationals got killed)
