I've just reviewed Csaba Szabo's ''Unreliable: Bias, Fraud, and the Reproducibility Crisis in Biomedical Research'.

It's a tour-de-force through how most biomedicine research results are impossible to reproduce, how the field is corrupted by fraud, and what some real scientists are doing to counter all of this.

It seems the #PubMed database has been shut down by the #Mump/#DOGE regime

via @martinjuhasz

"PubMed is a openly-accessible free database which includes primarily the MEDLINE database of references and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics. The United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health maintains the database as part of the Entrez system of information retrieval.[1] " [wikipedia]

“This is an utter disaster,” said Michael S. Lubell, physics professor at the City College of New York and former spokesman for the American Physical Society, the world’s largest group of physicists. “#Climate science is dead. God knows what’s going to happen to #biomedicine. This marks the beginning of the decline of the golden age of American science.”

Anthropologists using the tool of #ethnography to gain understanding of treatment of severe #mental illness:

' a key ingredient in recovery is “giving people a chance to create meaning around their experience.” In contrast, ...most psychiatric treatment consists of heavily prescribed drugs that “dull the experience but are not helping people to do the deep mucking out of spiritual, emotional, and psychological work” that recovery requires.'

'..social and economic factors can often increase the risk of schizophrenia more than any known genetic influences. These factors range from living in an urban rather than a rural environment to being an immigrant, living in poverty, emotional and sexual abuse (especially in childhood), and parental death,..'
