“More than 14 million acres of federal public land in #Colorado could be eligible for sale if Congress passes the current version of the budget bill mandating the sale of a fraction of the nation’s public lands…[including] chunks of mountain, foothills and plains along the Front Range and the Western Slope.”

Quaking aspen, slow motion, in the mountains of southern New Mexico.
Aspen saplings only grow in the mountains of southern New Mexico if you protect them from deer and elk.
This sapling was ravaged last year by deer, but this year it's got a chicken wire cage. Now the sapling is not only growing but already putting out a second wave of new shoots and leaves even though the first leaves are less than a month old.
New aspen leaves are coming out in the mountains of southern New Mexico.
Aspen leaves seem to glow with their rich light green color when they are backlit.
So,I *took* the photos on #MonochromeMonday lol..I hadn't checked on #aspen #catkins for a couple of weeks- just emerging last time I looked; I knew the cool/snowy weather we had would keep them in suspended animation. It's been warmer for the last week though, a few days into the mid teens C/ even near 20C/68F, so I wondered if they'd matured. Nope! Farther along but still not fully extended/open.. soon though..

Our aspen trees are budding.
So we had a question on our online chat room thing. A person is trans wanted to change the name on their card and asked how to do so. This isn't an option on our OPAC/discover layer, but it is on the back end. I wasn't sure of the answer, so I waited to see what someone else says.
A neat new thing in #Koha is "preferred name." It comes up in parentheses in Koha. Not sure what it does in #Aspen . Might need to test that...
Anyway, it seems our rules to change that are you can do it over chat, just prove who you are with your library card number and a couple other bits of info, (I call this "20 questions",) and that will be amended.
To change the actual name however, you have to come in. I don't think it has to be changed on a legal ID, but you have to prove more acutely who you are.
I suspect we keep a note on legal name on file, but I don't know.
Still, it's nice that you don't have to be deadnamed at checkout.
We've gone from days around -20C/-4F to +4 to +8C/39 to 46F still below freezing at night. Not exactly spring, but out of sight the trees will soon be getting ready for #Spring activity- like these #catkins from last spring (not an early one, this was May 01). #Aspen catkins are cute and fluffy, but #BalsamPoplar ! Some of the most beautiful #flowers of the year (before they fully open is the best time).

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 13 Today was a bit warmer and sunnier than yesterday. That means the frost disappeared mostly- good day for getting a bit more firewood done since it was not as pretty as yesterday, less time spent taking photos! View from yesterday

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 5 Yesterday was chillier again- not as cold as last week/not as warm as the rest of this week- in fact near average -4C. Mostly overcast, it was cold enough to let the frost stay on trees all day.

Stubborn aspen leaves refuse to admit that winter is here.
Still colour to be found- if you are looking! #LeafMother brought my attention to this #aspen #leaf on the ground, among many others, most of which have faded to dull earthy tones. I picked it up and placed it on a fallen balsam poplar trunk to photograph. #SolaceInNature #autumn #winter #BorealForest #animist #pagan #nature #photography #GetOutside
