I've spent much of the past week in portfolio meetings with all the students in my classes (grad and undergrad numerical computation). This is exhausting, but rewarding. It's fun to learn of the creative directions students take the class, of recovery from major setbacks, of excitement and confidence, of positive life habits. Many students expressed thanks for the version of #ungrading that I use, but the one that made me blush was the student who cited Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Thank you, all.

So great to get course evaluations and read something like this to reaffirm my commitment to #ungrading
"I love how the emphasis in this class was on making final products that we loved and were proud of, rather than for the assignment or grade. It made me think more outside of the box and challenge myself.... It's a truly collaborative class -- and it feels like everyone is so invested in each other's work, which is so nice. And as I said before, I love how grades were not emphasized because it allowed me to challenge myself and think more creatively. The stress of due dates and rubrics were sort of silenced, and I got to focus on my growth."

@ct_bergstrom I find your thread very interesting because it shows what GPT3 can and cannot do. On the other hand, IMHO it also shows the shortcomings of the currently prevailing #grading culture: Assigning letter or number grades for various isolated tasks does not take into account (among other things) #learning development. Especially if we follow students' learning development and work with individual learning contracts, AI like GPT3 should not worry us much. #ungrading
