In the Midwest US we also have tiny Rough-Winged Swallows. They are very plain but very cute!

@Captain_Jack_Sparrow @nickrauchen @greatbasinbirds Fairy Martin (*Petrochelidon ariel*) nests on a building in Cunnamulla, Queensland, Australia. These Martins are common close to watercourses in the outback. On the East Coast, e.g., Sydney area, they are replaced by Welcome Swallows ( *Hirundo neoxena*).

we only have Barn Swallows in the UK, and they are struggling at the moment due to loss of habitat etc. But they are beatiful to watch.

I love all kinds of #Swallows. We get large flocks visiting #Florida in the colder months. I once was "embedded" in a large murmuration in the #Everglades and it looked like it had started raining. Then we realized it was the birds pooping on us. Not to worry... they were just little pellets of insect exoskeleton (not the more familiar white bird "poop" which is actually the equivalent of urine for birds).
One evening I saw a bunch flying low over the reeds in our lake feeding on midges. I went out and captured this video. I also experimented with in-camera and post-processing slow motion. No music, so if you bump up the volume you can hear their little chips and then the same slowed down. It is kind of beguiling.

Once their mating season is over, you see swallows beginning to assemble, getting together on overhead cables, hanging out, and strengthening their social bonds before their migration journeys begin again. Saw this beautiful bunch of them today and my heart fair burst with the joy of it.
