It took a little longer than usual, but the manuscript for Sunday’s #sermon is finally up on my blog. jeffsjottings.wordpress.com/20

In this sermon, I look at four spiritual practices that can help us build ourselves and our communities for the fires in life: sleep, preparing for the day with prayer, waking up to the injustices around us, and wrapping up the day with gratitude.

If you're open to such things as sermons, I thought this was exceptional, and was a glimmer of light for me on a very dark day for so many of us.

This is Rev. Leah Atkinson Bilinski's sermon yesterday, MLKJr-day eve, at Fauntleroy UCC church in West Seattle.

[Yes, it's a pretty lily-white, (upper) middle-class, very liberal congregation. But still. I think Rev Leah delivered a powerful message on the work ahead and the journey. Particularly the end. Might not be what you would expect.]

(My sister is a member of the church and I've been to several services there when I'm in town visiting her)

Maybe try this one:

King's "Drum Major Instinct" sermon, given on 4 February 1968, was an adaptation of the 1952 homily ''Drum-Major Instincts'' by J. Wallace Hamilton.

King encouraged his congregation to seek greatness, but to do so through service and love. King concluded the sermon by imagining his own funeral, downplaying his famous achievements and emphasizing his heart to do right.

#Sermon: #Follow the Way of Self-Giving #Love

Peter, Andrew, James, and John are sitting around the #table after the #evening meal. #Jesus has just excused himself to go #pray; it is the first time the four of them have been alone together since they met #Jesus at the shore. James asks “How did this happen? How did we end up at this table?” For a moment there is #silence as they ponder what had happened earlier that #morning.
