Before music, yesterday I also finally tried the viral-for-a-reason chicken alla vodka and cheesesteak from Mama's Too, which had been on my list for a while. I can wholeheartedly recommend both and most all of their slices as well.

Okay, #BigSandwichNight. I spent far too much time and effort on this.

I made lamb koftas, and they went on the sandwich with a few sliced jalapeños, pickled vegetables, Bombay Mix, shredded lettuce, and some diced tomatoes that I seasoned with parsley and salt. I dressed it all with a homemade garlic and mint sauce.

It was a big sandwich, by any definition.

In the mood for a banana-cheese-pickle sandwich? We’ll forgive you if you’re not, but the unusual combination of foods was a thing in 1936, and one of many tasty, awful and just strange concoctions highlighted in Barry Enderwick’s “Sandwiches of History: The Cookbook.” After reviewing thousands of sandwiches, the author whittled his favorites down to 100 for the book. Atlas Obscura talks to Enderwick “about what constitutes a sandwich, the concept of buttered Swiss cheese, and whether the ‘moist maker’ sandwich is really any good.”
