An absolutely flippin' gorgeous morning here in #Asheville, so our planned breakfast picnic went off as hoped. Quick drive down to #Saluda, NC to a bakery, goodies snagged, then back up to the #ParkAtFlatRock for a walk and then coffee and rolls.

The work they're doing to restore Dye Creek through the park is really coming along, large sections are already completed. The #picnic tables had moved a bit, but were still under cover.

Soon it will be too warm for anything but an early-morning stroll, but this was perfect. #Walk

A spectacularly green-looking photograph, of a 4-5' wide, newly dug creek, wiggling through grass right down to the water, and then up to a green area with trees. It is still spring here, so the trees are about half out, and the color remains that lovely chartreuse, with much room for light to dapple through. On the left of the creek here they've left the more wild-looking area of trees, shrubs and bushes. It really is a lovely setting. Blue sky peeks through above and through the trees.
The picnic photo. We are setting up on a picnic table in the shade of some large white pine trees, with one of them directly in front of the table. The green Stanley thermos (who loves picnics) sits on the table, along with a black coffee mug (with green interior) and the star of the meal, a very good pecan sticky roll. No, I definitely did NOT walk far enough this morning to work off that roll. A trip to the Arboretum this afternoon will be required. Behind the shady section we are enjoying, the sun is lighting up a grassy field, edged with trees. We were early enough there were not all that many people here, and only about 25% had dogs.

Cold start here in #Asheville, so we went to the #Wildflour #bakery in #Saluda, then drove to a favorite #FlatRockPark for a picnic and a bit of a walk.

Cleverly, the thermos full of #coffee and mugs stayed on the kitchen counter during this event, but Wildflour came through with #coffee as well as the pecan rolls. Very nice #hike if a bit shorter (and less caffeinated) than planned.

Weather turns tonight here, with rain/snow/freezing rain and perhaps live toads. Will let you know when reality arrives...

A frosty picnic table supports a delicious-looking sticky roll covered in pecan pieces, and a sadly small to-go cup of coffee rests next to it. The slightly blurry background shows a paved walking path, some white pine trees, and a variety of bare deciduous trees. Many fewer people than usual here, due to the early hour and temperatures. Almost everyone had a dog, and we met 2 Goldens, one who was fifteen and a half.
An absolutely stunning cerulean blue sky arches over a frozen pond/creek. The surface is frozen, and one can almost make out the reflections of the bare trees on the far side bank. The reflections are fractured due to the uneven ice.
A dirt walking path winds past a large tree, whose limbs are either in deep shadow, or are just beginning to catch the sun, and show up looking like alligator skin. In the distance, the sun is just caught at the top of 2 white pines sitting in the center of a grassy meadow, in this one-time golf course. The sky is still a pretty blue, and the lighting is very interesting.
