One of the books that had profoundly shaped my worldview as a teenager was "#Rhinocéros" by Eugène #Ionesco.

Our protagonist Bérenger watches in horror as people around him – fellow citizens, neighbors, firefighters, colleagues, friends, and even lover – turn into violent rhinoceroses, hellbent on rampant destruction. First slowly, then at an increasingly intense clip.
