I was treated to a feast of quilts this weekend in a local village. Monyash Quilters, part of the UK Quilters Guild put on a wonderful show.

Close-ups on the four panels before a light edge stitching was put around the appliqués.
The appliqués themselves were cut from a fun children's fabric with planets and stars, and applied with an iron on adhesive backing.
Apparently I didn't bookmark the earlier post showing progress on the latest wall hanging, and auto-delete ate it. So here it is again. All but the lower left tree of worlds panel has had stitches made around the edges of the appliqués. Still need to do that.
She is done and oh so beautiful!

(I blurred the name and date of birth for privacy)
The first step of my #quilt begins. There is probably not enough contrast between the fourth and fifth from the right in the top row, so those will go if they have to.
Off to play with layouts in Scribus. If there were a soundtrack to these images, it would be a *pleased chortling*.
I finished the Star Trek baby quilt. I have not washed this yet. #Startrek #applique #handquilting #quilt

Happy Pride Month!
Work in progress or is it finished?
A piece I did as part of my flying geese series..this one in support of trans people, many fleeing persecution. I did the boa like a caterpillar, and the quilting patterns in a butterfly motif using the flying geese quilting block shapes. 10” square. Acrylic on board.
A little further along on this painting. Adjusting the colors and refining shapes and face.
As I paint, I think about Trump’s “Golden Age”. I think I am painting its reality, as satirical commentary on people ignoring all the signs until they can’t. The gold being fool’s gold, and people migrating, fleeing, wearing gold emergency blankets.
Acrylic on board, 24 x 36”
Yesterday I finished the third of three texture-focused baby quilts. I made these using scraps from sewing projects, from remainders of others' projects, and even from older clothes where part of the fabric was in good condition
The center is a corduroy and silk pattern with actual quilting and the rest is just tied. I had so much fun finding a wide variety of textures to touch. (I really struggle with touching corduroy so I am v. glad this is wrapped) #quilt #reuse #fabric #textile #quilting
Work in Progress on a new piece started today which is already mixed media collage and acrylic. Tried an experiment and liking it!
Looking forward to see how this evolves. The orange red of her dress will be gold colored when done maybe even gold leaf or paint? Lots still to do, but really happy with how it’s coming along. Its another largish piece, Mixed Media 24 x 36” on wood panel.

Decided on a pattern for my Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt an started to sew a test. My plan - so far - is to use no newly produced fabric. I made the first flowers out of a rest of my 1. medieval-byzantine garb, an old jumpsuit of my kid (woodland critters), a shirt I never wore and a vintage fabric scrap. The border of the flower (or the "ways" between the flowers in the garden, there will also be "leafs" in various shades of green) consists of second hand cloth, I hope I have enough of it. I had the luck to find second hand some vintage fabric from a quilter (may the earth be light on her). I bought ~ 4 Kg fabric online really cheap and without really knowing what was in it, only because of some turquoise cotton fabric I saw on a crappy photo. I gambled a bit and was rewarded. When I opened the parcel I was so happy to find that there were several pieces of (vintage and modern) damask bedclothes included, hand died in green, olive and turquoise. Really, it's an absolute treasure box.
Edit: (Also: I feel like I am deeply in need to review my thoughts about #art and crafting. When I look at other peoples things: Yes! This is art!
When I look at my things: No, you just did.. apply things you bought, used techniques you saw. )

The first in a new series “Flying Geese”, inspired by the “Flying Geese” quilt pattern. It continues on with the themes in all the work I’ve been exploring lately on migration, climate change, and other reasons people leave home, seek new places to call home. Using textiles as inspiration.
These simple geometric shapes are a nice contrast to the many details of the rug paintings which take a long time to complete.
