Saturday & I’m #writing while listening to this, a stone cold classic, Miles, Coltrane, Jones, Chambers, Garland: What’s not to love?

Chambers is a highlight for me. That ascending/descending bass on S’posin is just perfect for writing action.

This #OJC series is so well done. Yep, it’s at the dearer end (in the UK), but high quality jacket, flawless pressing, dynamic mastering, & top tier titles… What’s not to love?

& FWIW, Prestige #Miles is my favourite Miles.

I remember buying #OJC records in the mid 1980s. It was an economical way to get out-of-print classics. Now, Craft Recordings is slowly releasing the catalog as a fairly premium audiophile product - remastered by Kevin Gray on 180 g - with a price of $39.

Records in 1985 cost about $7-$10. An inflation calculator tells me that's $19.85-$28.36 in today's dollars.

I understand the new series is higher quality, but I would love a non-premium option for $20 or $25. #vinyl #jazz

Early Friday finish, returned home to this & so I’m #NowSpinning #TheloniousMonk with #JohnColtrane from the all new #Craft reissue of the #OJC series &, on the basis of a first listen, it’s a beaut. High quality tip on jacket & reproduction of the original artwork, flawless pressing, incredible musicianship & playing which is delicate & wild, melodic & then inventive in turn.

This is cut by #KevinGray & so the SQ is bang on.

Continued thread

I do have the original #OJC & will compare - but I need to listen to this one a few more times first.

In terms of the music - I just love Miles Prestige stuff. And this, along with Relaxin’, is probably my favourite of this run. Although they are all indispensable, imo.

Great food courtesy of #Yuzo, Chinatown, Manchester, & great company.

Now kicking back with friends, beer, & the delightful #Walkin’ with the #MilesDavis sextet & quartet.

Again, I’m just in love with these early Prestige recordings: nothing else quite swings like this. Add #HoraceSilver & #KennyClarke to the mix & it’s a win.

This is another #OJC & it’s both well priced & very well done. Life-like, vital, dynamic, with great tonality.

Returned from a sunny spring walk & #NowListening to my latest find: #SonnyRollins With The #ModernJazzQuartet.

I’m a fan of Rollins, #ArtBlackey, & this period of #Prestige in general.

There are sections where this rocks, & Rollins really honks, but some of the ballads are really lovely. In A Sentimental Mood, in particular, stills the turning of the earth - if only for a moment.

This pressing by #OJC is flat, centred, clean, with enough dynamics.

#NowPlaying #Workin’ by the #MilesDavis Quintet. This has just arrived - #OJC & NM - & so gets the first spin of the day.

This was a conspicuous gap in my Miles at Prestige collection. On a first listen, with no other version with which to compare, it sounds plenty good: clean, dynamic, & rich.

The jacket is light card, but the price was bang on. I’m assuming #AnalogueProductions will reissue this series ‘cos the secondary prices are insane.

Rare day off work & #NowPlaying #Cookin’ with the #MilesDavis Quintet.

I love these #Prestige recordings & the line up here is unbelievable: #JohnColtrane, #RedGarland, #PhillyJoeJones, & #PaulChambers.

This is from #OJC, likely cut from digital, but it really does sound good, particularly for the money. Despite the light weight card, the reproduction of that iconic sleeve is on point.

#Workin’ (OJC) arrives tomorrow to complete the series.
