The effect of this is to create great lack of confidence on our side amounting to grave suspicion. Essential that action be taken immediately otherwise situation will become impossible." 3/3
In the telegram from Collins to Churchill he wrote:
"We are hampered by the continued lack of material. We were promised two hundred rounds of high explosive at two AM this morning but they were not available. This ammunition was again promised for five thirty and again not available. The promise was renewed for eight thirty with like result. 2/

#DNI #TulsiGabbard has fired the top 2 officials at the National #Intelligence Council, weeks after the council wrote an assessment that contradicted #Trump’s rationale for invoking the #AlienEnemiesAct & deporting *alleged* [presumed] #Venezuelan gang members without #DueProcess.
#Gabbard removed #MichaelCollins, the acting chair of the National Intelligence Council, as well as his deputy, #MariaLanganRiekhof….

Here are some fun pics - for my 40th birthday in 2021 we escaped to Glasgow for a long weekend (in between lockdowns). My wife had booked a hotel in the city centre as a surprise. When we arrived we found several streets shut down, and entirely redressed as 1969 Manhattan for the filming of the latest Indiana Jones movie

O'Higgins was also assassinated by anti-Treaty members of the IRA.
Lord Birkenhead, one of the English signatories, reportedly said on signing the treaty: "Mr Collins, in signing this Treaty I'm signing my political death warrant", to which Collins is said to have replied, "Lord Birkenhead, I'm signing my actual death warrant." 2/2
On 6 December 1921 the Anglo-Irish Treaty (An Conradh Angla-Éireannach) was signed. The signing of the Treaty ended British rule in most of Ireland and, after a ten-month transitional period overseen by a provisional government, the Irish Free State was created as a self-governing Dominion on 6 December 1922. 1/2
The Black and Tans attacked the Gaelic football match between Tipperary and Dublin at Croke Park. Two football players, Michael Hogan and Jim Egan were shot. Egan survived but Hogan was killed. Hogan was from Grangemockler, county Tipperary. 2/2
On 21st November 1920 fourteen British intelligence agents, including members of the Cairo Gang, were assassinated in Dublin by the IRA under the command of Michael Collins. Thirty one people were killed in what became known as ‘Bloody Sunday’ (Domhnach na Fola). In the aftermath, fourteen Irish civilians and three IRA prisoners were killed. 1/2
Michael Collins was born on 16 October 1890 in Woodfield, Sam's Cross, County Cork. He was a soldier and politician who was a leading figure in the early-20th century struggle for Irish independence. During the War of Independence he was Director of Intelligence of the IRA and a government minister of the self-declared Irish Republic. He was commander-in-chief of the National Army from July until his death in an ambush in August 1922.
He is reported as saying:
"The biggest task will be the restoration of the language. How can we express our most subtle thoughts and finest feelings in a foreign tongue? Irish will scarcely be our language in this generation, or even perhaps in the next. But until we have it again on our tongues and in our minds we are not free, and we will produce no important literature.”
Michael Collins (Mícheál Ó Coileáin) was buried on August 28, 1922 in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin. An estimated 500,000 people lined Sackville Street (O’Connell Street today). Thousands also attended Collins's funeral ceremony at Dublin's Pro Cathedral, including both Irish and foreign dignitaries.

Neil Armstrong becomes first man to walk on the Moon at 02:56 UTC (10:56PM EDT) July 21, 1969.
I was at Camp Durant the week of Apollo 11 in 1969. The Boy Scout Camp had no TVs or radios. I had decided to smuggle my 13" Motorola Cadet B&W to camp that year.

Michael Collins and the Big Wheel
I was out and about with friends from Blarney Photography Club on Thursday night, and we got some great shots of the big wheel on Grand Parade. This year the big wheel is joined by a statue of the Big Fellah, Michael Collins.
