If you are in the #KC-ish area or further south in #Missouri, it’s time to put out your hummingbird feeders.

According to eBird, a pair were spotted at the Anita B Gorman Conservation Discovery Center in downtown KC yesterday. YAY!

Remember: 1 part white sugar to 4 parts water. No dye needed. No honey, powdered sugar, etc. Regular granulated sugar.

This is one of my photos from last year.

I just saw on a billboard that Alton Brown is doing a show here in the #KC area. Five or so years ago I would have been all over that. But I’m pretty sure he’s become one of the bad guys. So thanks but no thanks.

Today I was visiting with one of Grandpa’s neighbors and saw something amazing. A lizard dashed across his garden and under his deck.

I know Missouri and even the KC area has them. But in my experience they are crazy rare. Particularly here in the ‘burbs. As a kid whose earliest memories were in the Sonoran Desert being fascinated by lizards I got so excited. 🥰 #Missouri #KC-ish

I’d like to buy some used solar panels. It’d be cool if I could get them local. I deleted Facebook so marketplace is not an option. eBay searches for local stuff seem sketch.

Anyone have ideas around the #KC metro or beyond! Or possibly have one or two panels not being used? Looking for 200ish to 400ish watts. Would be ideal to get two that combined equal 500-800.

It is hard to believe it’s already nesting season here in the #KC ‘burbs. This fella and his pretty lady are interested in our back box. They better hurry up, because the dumb house sparrows are aggressive this season, already!

Last year it took many nest evictions and a few sparrow traps before a native couple settled in.

You know what's great about not yet being an expert in #naturalist topics?

I was sure I heard a gull yesterday. Merlin informed me it's a red-shouldered hawk. It is crazy to me how birds you think you know (from media,) you really don't know.

Don't get me started on the bald eagle...

Anyway our RS hawks are out doing their thing this morning. Beautiful!

I am always impressed with the ability of the #fedi to provide answers. So here goes…

I need a bunch of grow tubes. But holy smokes, they are expensive unless you place an insanely large order.

Anyone know of a buyer’s union, or co-op situation? Here’s an example of pricing disparities 🤯. Prices are per 10-pack.

Howdy from the #KC-ish ‘burbs. We got sleet and snow and now the wind is howling. It has been lovely to watch the birbs this morning. Three flickers at once! 🤩

Eastern Bluebirds, Red Bellied Woodpeckers, so much good activity this AM.

Hey peeps or just nerds:

I’ll be in this week. Tomorrow, I have time to stop for BBQ after my flight lands. I’ve already done the following: Joe’s, Jack Stack, Slaps, Buck Tui, and Q39.

What should I hit? Anything between the airport and Overland/Leawood works.

Today will be the first spring-like day of the year here in the broader #KC area. Totally here for it.

ALSO: @Jillianmarisa noticed this weekend that the first wave of our #CrocusLawn is starting to do its thing. Quite late this year, given this is the first normal winter we’ve had in recent memory.
