Happy #DisabilityPrideMonth to fellow #PeopleWithDisabilities. I'm proud that we're still here, using our voices to keep advocating for #DisabilityRights & #inclusion & #accessibility & making our presence known because we are also part of the communities we live & work in.
Disability rights have come a long way but there's still much more work to do to reach equality & equity goals too. I appreciate everyone who supports people with disabilities & folks who understand how much many of us had to overcome just to still be alive & able to post here today.
Many folks in our society look down upon people with disabilities & that's their personal deficit. Those folks don't want to accept the fact that everyone will suffer disabilities at some point in their lives. If they weren't so close-minded, they'd likely not support any type of eugenics on disabled people either. The fears of having disabilities causes many non-disabled folks to grip to ignorance rather than lean into learning more.
We, folks with disabilities, are some of the most highly adaptable people in society. We've had to adapt at every stage in our lives to survive. We know what it's like to be prejudged by people & we know a lot about discrimination. We've not allowed society to eliminate us or censor our words. We have to keep speaking up for ourselves & others with disabilities because no one else will.
I raise my cane up high for all fellow people with disabilities & giving a high five to our loyal comrades too ️
"Our core identity as Americans — the most precious legacy we have been given by the generations who came before us — consists of the ideals we share and the obligations we hold in common. ...
If we are losing our national identity, it is not because we are becoming blacker or browner or speak in more languages than we once did. It is because we are losing the ties that bind us together, our collective empathy."
~ Robert Reich

This year, it comes as #Trump’s presidency has been marked by attacks on #diversity, #equity & #inclusion & attempts to erase & minimize #BlackHistory as part of the American story. What does it mean to claim resistance & resilience in an age of exclusion?
For perspective on how to consider #Juneteenth this year, Errin Haines spoke to Dr. Kaye Wise Whitehead, president of the Association for the Study of African American Life & History, the organization that founded Black History Month.
Williams became the first college to decline federal science grants because of the Nazi Regime’s effort to eradicate DIVERSITY, EQUITY, and INCLUSION
