I used Arch btw... and I hated it.

I got this #ThinkPad X280, and I thought, I should go hardcore (I've used Arch in the past too btw). But I disliked the experience again, everything is just buggy: #Hyprland would crash with the default settings with Waybar, Deepin wouldn't load at all, Cinnamon wouldn't ask me for a pswd after a wake-up, KDE would go all haywire if Deepin was installed etc etc etc etc.

Just. Not. good. I don't see why all the raves.

From what I gathered along the years of using Linux:

- KDE: Tinkerer, you want the OS to work *for you*.
- GNOME: Simpler, you want the OS to *stay away* from you.
- Budgie: Fast, you want GNOME but *your hardware doesn't*.
- XFCE: Faster, you want the OS to *run*.
- Hyprland: H4x0r, you want the OS to *be the terminal*.
- Sway: Edgy, you want the OS to be *your phone*.

@josh

I've been using #SwayWM for quite a while now and I've been loving it. Now that I've gotten used to using a tiling window manager, I don't like using a computer without it.

I've installed and fired up #Hyprland a few times but haven't given it enough of a go yet to say whether I like it or not.

@fabio@manganiello.social I've tried it several times but every time #Wayland just isn't there yet. Even if you stick to one of the huge DEs (which I don't), there's plenty of bugs and features just straight up not working. The things that do work seem to be a bit smoother than #Xorg, but there's too many things missing to make it worthwhile.

I was able to get pretty close with
#Hyprland, but it constantly uses a full cpu core while being idle which isn't great, and the master tiling layout often leaves massive gaps which seem to only be resolved by opening a window, waiting a bit, and then closing that window again. Very annoying, and doesn't seem to ever happen with #Awesome.

I'll try again in a couple years I guess. It should be usable before the end of my life, right?

Hi, I'm Josh, and I am currently studying computer science in hopes of working in the software development/general tech industry.
