“Hey Siri, play some music”
“Ok, here’s some music picked just for you.”
“Hey Siri, stop”
“Ok, you need to continue on a companion device”
“Hey Siri, for crying out loud, just shut the **** up.”

Whyyyyyyy #homepod

That's weird. While we were in the living room the #HomePod in the bedroom suddenly said something I didn't understand. Then it played music I never heard before.

I then restarted it. Shortly after it said something again and beeped three times. That's kind of scary.

My wife said this happened multiple times today, that it randomly said things when no one was near it.

I guess it's time to replace all HomePods bit by bit with a #HomeAssistant Voice.

My mother has an Apple #Homepod. It plays music through Apple Music just fine, but apparently getting it to ‘stop’ requires the companion device (her iPhone).

I can’t find the setting in the Home app that says ‘play this crap forever until the listener loses their mind’. She can’t always get to her phone due to mobility issues.

It’ll stop for me though, even though I’m a ‘guest’ user. I have no idea what is going on. 🤦‍♂️

I am irrationally gleeful today because I replaced a #Philips #Hue Bridge v2's power adapter with a USB-A-to-2.5mm-barrel cable.

Now I just plug in the USB-A cable to my new #Anker Prime Charger, 200W 6-Port #GaN Charging Station.

So, I've replaced 4 devices' power supplies with cables that plug into this sweet charging station. A Hue hub, my #Hubitat hub, and two 15w #Apple power supplies for my #HomePod minis.

Now awaiting the cables (USB-A-to-2.1mm-barrel) for my two Eufy Homebase 2's!! 🎉🍾

A visitor commented on the audio quality of the HomePod Stereo pair in my living room.

They’re right. I think that the boxy wooden TV cabinet the HomePods are sitting on acts like a big speaker cabinet for bass resonance. It sounds amazing. And different from another Stereo pair I have in another room.

The cabinet is shown in the picture.

Something like 9 months ago or so, I stopped being able to play music on my #Apple #HomePod Minis -- it would say it couldn't find it in my apple music library. Weirdly, after a restart, at least one of the minis would be able to do so -- and then would stop being able to do so later. But if I told it to continue playing, and then asked which playlist it was, it got it right. So I called support. And got nowhere.

Here's something kinda cool…you can control an Apple TV via HomePod Siri

If you have a HomePod and Apple TV in the same HomeKit room, you can do rudimentary controls like “Siri pause playback on the Apple TV”

Even if you have Apple TVs in other rooms, Siri knows which one you mean

I use it when I need to jump up real quick, e.g., to check the oven, and don't have time to find the remote

Damn.

Guess we’ll be talking about this on “The Dalrymple Report” we record tomorrow:

Jim:
“Siri has done what no person could for 30 years: Make me stop using an Apple product.

I am giving up on my 8 HomePods/minis out of the sheer frustration of trying to use Siri.

I’ve been in tech for 30 years and this is one of the worst technologies ever and only getting worse”

Not sure what #Apple changed and fixed with recent #HomePod updates, but my requests for my playlists in Apple Music have finally started working after years of being busted.

Yes I did all the troubleshooting, soft resets, hard resets, account support, etc.

Better late than never I guess.

@shortridge Tried turning an #Apple device off lately?

I nearly blew a gasket when my iPad Pro power button was — via a software update — turned into an Apple Pay / Apple Wallet button and turning off the iPad went from a long press of the former, so-called "hardware" button into a Vulcan neck pinch of said button and the volume up button.

Notably, the so-called dedicated "hardware button" that was supposed to be a hardware power button, is the only button you need to press-and-hold to turn the device back on 🧐

Apple is, unfortunately, at the forefront of surrounding us with always-on devices that never actually shut down or don't even have the concept of being "off" (hello #HomePod #HomePodSurveillance) unless you unplug them (and wouldn't it be unsurprising to learn there's a battery or capacitor keeping it on a tiny bit longer than that … if not now then soon I'm sure).

I recently switched from an old iHome alarm clock that used my 30-pin iPod Classic to a #HomePod mini for wake up. Unfortunately, the HomePod can’t play random selections from a playlist — there’s a UI for it, but it never actually works when it’s time for the alarm to go off. So instead, I lock in to a song for a week at a time or so. Here’s my current wake up music. #FinalFantasyXII #HitoshiSakimoto music.apple.com/us/album/the-z
