"#NetureiKarta, which has been estimated at around 100 members, has been doctrinally #antiZionist since long before #Hamas#Oct7, 2023 attack that launched the war in #Gaza. While anti-#Zionist #Jewish groups have reported significant growth since the beginning of the #Gaza war, according to surveys, most American #Jews feel an attachment to #Israel even as many disapprove of #Israeli government policy.

Other, much larger #Hasidic movements eschew #Zionism, but Neturei Karta is unique in consistently showing up to protest Israel and adopting the language and symbols of pro-#Palestinian activism.

The group’s leadership has met multiple times with the leaders of #Iran, an #Islamic theocracy and Israel’s chief regional adversary, including former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who denied the #Holocaust. The group faced particular backlash, as well as condemnation from #haredi leaders, in 2007 for appearing at an #Iranian conference centered on Holocaust denial.”

Jewish Telegraphic Agency · ‘Humans of New York’ features a Jewish anti-Zionist member of Neturei Karta. The comments section erupts.By Ben Sales

Interesting-ish data. I'd say there looks like big flaws in the choice to agglomerate sects as if they're the same. But it's accurate enough for the conclusions in this article.

"The authors surveyed 1,307 #Orthodox #Jewish adults, 95% of whom reside in the U.S. They grouped respondents into three categories: Modern Orthodox; #Haredi — including both #Hasidic and #Yeshivish #Jews who belong to a sect or follow a particular rabbi — and the New York-based Hasidic #Satmar sect, whose adherents believe that no #Jewish state may be established until the Messiah comes."

@Leah True—and where things have been going for many years. Look at the NY yeshivot. These people don’t find it necessary at all to provide a secular education: science, English, civics. Their kids will grow up to vote — if at all — however their rebbe tells them.

#Haredi #Jews, #Christofascists, and extremists of all varieties regard #democracy with suspicion. Why read Heart of Darkness or Native Son when you have the Bible? Why learn how bills become laws, when you have the One True Law? Why be part of our pluralistic, diverse, cross-pollinating society, when those outside your communities are enemies of God?

I’m just warming up here. . . 🤓
