🤝 Good news from the open-source world!
XWiki is teaming up with OpenProject to offer a complete, modular alternative to Confluence and Jira — no vendor lock-in, no trade-offs.

We believe in tools that respect users, protect data, and work well together.
That’s why we’re building an integrated experience across documentation and project management — and doing it openly.

The past 2 weeks have been a marathon of meaningful conversations for @ldubost , our CEO.

From the @apell Conference in Warsaw to @ow2 con in Paris and the NGI Forum in Brussels, he has been out there sharing what we do at XWiki and @CryptPad and why it matters.

Events like these are a space to connect with fellow open source builders, advocates for digital sovereignty, and those rethinking what sustainable software in Europe can look like.

Digital suverænitet handler ikke kun om hvor serverne står.
Det handler også om, hvem der bestemmer over det, vi bærer i lommen.

✨ European open source deserves the spotlight

Choosing local, open alternatives means you stay in control, not some global megacorp.

If digital sovereignty matters to you (and it should), now’s the time to support the ecosystem.

We’ve put together a list of EU-built tools that respect your rights and your data.

#BuyEurope and Made in China - how do they go together?

You can find the answer in our new blog post:

At a time when national interests often take precedence over common solutions and dialog is replaced by power games, many of us feel a strong need:
➡️ For stability.
➡️ For reliability.
➡️ For responsibility - also regionally.

Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump has brought me to my breaking point with US tech.

I’m going to keep pushing for governments to get serious about digital sovereignty, but in the meantime I’m looking for non-US alternatives — and will have more on what I’ll be using instead soon.

Myown #UnplugTrump to more digital sovereignty

If you’ve been following my blog, you know that I’m gradually moving away from “classical” Big Tech social media, focusing more on Mastodon and my own homepage.

On Mastodon, I came across Elena Rossini and followed her journey toward greater digital sovereignty. Inspired by her example, I decided to give up my YouTube channel in favor of a self-hosted PeerTube instance.

Having lived around 15% of my life in Europe, it’d periodically wonder, “so who are the tech giants or significant contributions, past and present?”

Something something Acorn and Lara Croft?

MikroTik, SAF Tehnika, and Skype?

Siemens and um, SAP?

One ExPad told me that Europe, for better or for worse lacks the venture capitalist ecosystem of other countries and can’t… experiment in the same way. Which is not necessarily entirely bad given that one tech bubble/pets.com is plenty.

But. The current reëvaluation is awesome and overdue, regardless of its motivations!

There is a growing sentiment that the US shouldn't be relied upon for the technologies that many people and businesses use every day.

While we prefer to focus on technical guarantees like strong end-to-end encryption over matters like jurisdiction, these issues still matter, and the United States certainly does not have a monopoly on the best technologies.

We've compiled a list of some of our favorite and highly recommended European privacy tools, to highlight how easy it can be to take your data back from American Big Tech companies: privacyguides.org/articles/202
