Today’s listening is ‘Oh Brother’, the 2024 album by Dawes.

This is the new album from Dawes, which has only just arrived with me, so this is my first listen.

This seems to be something of a stripped-back sonic approach from the Goldsmith brothers, which I’m not entirely sure I like overly much.

But Taylor Goldsmith’s excellent (deceptively brutal) lyric writing and ear for a good melody are still present, so that’s all to the good!

Today’s listening is ’Nothing Is Wrong’, the 2011 album by Dawes.

This was the second studio album by Dawes and you can tell that Taylor Goldsmith was still finding his feet as a songwriter at this stage of their career.

There are some good tunes here and altogether this is a very enjoyable album!

In particular I've been listening to the 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of this album from 2021, which is pressed on two ‘milky clear’ coloured 45rpm discs. Very nice!

Today’s listening is ‘All Your Favorite Bands’, the 2015 album by Dawes.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable melodic rock album from Dawes, with some great guitar work and good tunes, quite laid-back at times.

My favourite track is probably ‘To Be Completely Honest’.

“May all your favorite bands stay together”-a fine sentiment, but sadly one that rarely comes true!

"All Your Favorite Bands" is one of my all-time favorite songs, not just in the #Dawes catalog; I mean, *ever.*

But *Passwords* is my favorite record of theirs. Dude's voice is pure silk, and that album just makes life seem JUST a tad less horrifying.

I love this thought, love this song.

I had never heard of these guys until I saw them open for ELO, five years ago. They had a good set, but of course #ELO knocked it out of the park that night, and I barely thought of the opening band after the show.

And then, every day after, the "all your favorite bands" line started to nudge my brain occasionally, until I listened to that song again and fell in love with it.

Simple, beautiful, elegant.

Get that El Camino running, my brother, and never throw away that hat!
