Notes/observations from #Jets OTA:

* Play of the day was Justin Fields-to-Garrett Wilson, who went up high to make a two-handed, contested catch over Michael Carter II. Have to imagine they did that a few times in their days at Ohio State. It was one of the longer throws of the day for Fields, who tends to take the checkdowns (as opposed to Tyrod Taylor, who likes to push the ball downfield).

* Strong quote from Aaron Glenn on Fields: "He's a talented player and I'm happy that I have him as my quarterback, I really am. I think the sky's the limit for this player, I do. Listen, I'm not going to go out there and say that he's the next Joe Namath or anything like that, but I will tell you what, man, he's going to be a good player for us and I'm excited what he's going to do for us this season."

* Good practice for Taylor, who throws a pretty ball and always seems in command. Nice fourth-and-14 conversion to Xavier Gipson, who made an outstanding catch.

* Defensive standouts: CB Brandon Stephens had excellent coverage on a deep pass from Fields to Wilson -- an incompletion ... DE Rashad Weaver continued to flash as a pass rusher ... Rookie S Malachi Moore made a diving INT on a throw by rookie QB Brady Cook and returned it for 6 ... S Jaylin Simpson with a practice-ending INT on a deflected throw by Adrian Martinez, who otherwise had some nice passes (including a dime to rookie WR Jamaal Pritchett) ... S Jarius Monroe with a PBU in the end zone.

* The Fields-Mason Taylor connection will be interesting to watch throughout the season. Statistically, Fields has been one of the most effective QBs in the league when targeting tight ends. It's imperative that one of the TEs (Taylor or Jeremy Ruckert) becomes a viable option in this passing offense. Taylor had another productive practice, especially in 7 v 7.

* Nice day for WR Pokey Wilson, who made a couple of terrific grabs from Taylor.

* Asked about DE Micheal Clemons' absence, Glenn noted that Clemons has attended practices that have been close to the media.

* Interesting nugget from LB Quincy Williams, who said he got a call from Glenn after he was hired and they spent 90 minutes on the phone. He said Glenn challenged him with specific ways to become a better player (and he's already pretty good).

Happy Cap Relief Day:

#Jets gain $13.5M today with the March releases of Rodgers and Mosley.

Rodgers cap drops from $23.5M to $14M. BUT … there’s a $35M charge in ‘26.

Mosley cap drops from $12.8M to $8.8M. BUT … there’s a $7.7M charge next year.

A few thoughts/observations on today's #Jets practice:

* Justin Fields' running ability was on display, as he picked up a couple of nice gains on designed plays. This dimension will force teams to defend the Jets differently than they ever have.

* Fields threw the ball pretty well, including a second-read throw to Garrett Wilson that showed some arm strength, but I thought he held the ball too long at times, even in 7 v 7. That's been the knock on Fields in the past (see: high sack total). Let's not over-react; he's learning a new offense. So is everyone else.

* Tyrod Taylor made the best throw of the day, a timing/anticipation route to Xavier Gipson. Gipson turned and the ball was there. Pretty.

* Rookie TE Mason Taylor (still unsigned) caught one from Fields in 7 v 7 and came back later in 11 v 11 and showed nice awareness, finding a soft spot in the defense for another grab. He will have a significant role on offense.

* Speaking of TEs, Zack Kuntz (remember him?) displayed some separation and downfield speed in a 7 v 7 with Taylor at QB. We know Kuntz has athletic ability. But can he block?

* Quinnen Williams' absence allowed other DTs to get more reps. DC Steve Wilks gave shout outs to Byron Cowart and Jay Tufele.

* Post-Morstead: Some funny looking punts with Austin McNamara and Kai Kroeger, neither of whom has NFL experience.
