#GlobalEconomy already feeling drag from #TrumpTariffs

#Trump's #tariffs are increasingly clogging up the wheels of a world #economy which for decades were greased by predictable & relatively #FreeTrade.

Big-name multinationals right down to niche e-commerce players last week cut sales targets, warned of #job cuts & reviewed their #business plans, while major economies revised down growth prospects amid bleak data read-outs.

More American isolationism. The USA is locking itself away from the rest of the world, while simultaneously demanding the rest of the world listen to it, and allow it to run their affairs. #POTUS #TrumpTariffs

Oh, please let him do it.😂 We can eat buckets of popcorn watching this Keystone Cops mismanagement of the #AmericanEconomy. 🤣

According to the #MotionPictureAssociation, the industry generated a positive balance of trade in every major market in the world, with exports 3.1 times that of imports. The industry produced $22.6 billion in exports, and $15.3 billion in trade surplus. #Trump’s point, though, was to keep that U.S. production within the U.S.

That said, other countries also could respond to the 100% tariff with their own duties on U.S. films, which would have an impact on #InternationalBoxOffice returns, which are a huge chunk of major studio revenue. #Disney, the global box office leader in 2024, drew $2.23 billion in the U.S. and $3.23 billion internationally.

Donald Trump vs. CBS: An analysis
Deadline · Donald Trump Says He’s Pursuing 100% Tariffs On Movies Produced Outside U.S., Calling Runaway Production “A National Security Threat”By Ted Johnson

Now that Trump is imposing a 100% tariff on all foreign-produced movies, we can expect the cost is streaming services like Netflix to skyrocket.

Once again the American consumer faces higher costs because of Trump’s incompetence and his lack of understanding about how economies actually work.

>> Also, I'm not comparing apples (or Apples) to oranges. I'm saying: "holy crap, there's a $1,600 fruit! Did everyone realize there's fruit that cost that much?!"

It's like buying a $400 bike and comparing it to a $40000 car and saying hold crap, there's a $40K vehicle.

I'm surprised nobody commented on the actual topic the OP raised — that #TrumpTariffs are #TrumpTaxes, not on Apple, but on #American consumers, not #Canadian, not the #Scottish.

@Lassielmr @georgetakei

Under WTO General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) & General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), Digital films (streaming/downloads) are services/intellectual property, and fall under GATS — which makes direct tariffs nearly impossible.

With all due respect President Donvict, you are giving a nearly impossible directive.

The Trump Tariffs are already causing damage. We can expect ripple effects comparable to the early-pandemic supply chain shocks of 2020.

The 20th century’s Great Depression had a saying:

Use it up.
Wear it out.
Make it do,
or do without.

Until the destructive Trump Tariffs are rescinded, we’ll all need to cut back on what we buy. Part of that will be cutting back on what we waste. We’ve prepared some recommendations.
