A podcast with climate researcher Leon Simons from the Netherlands, who talks about how our declining sulphur emissions are removing the aerosol shield that was protecting the Earth from solar radiation.

After 30 years of annual climate conferences, our GHG emissions continue on a "business as usual" trajectory - they keep going up. The patient is dying and needs a life saving operation now.

A novel idea to dim the Sun by spraying reflective particles into the stratosphere has been proposed by some scientists. The idea is inspired by a sci-fi novel by Kim Stanley Robinson, who imagines a future where solar geoengineering is used to combat climate change. The idea is controversial, but some argue that it could be a last resort option to avoid the worst effects of global warming. #SolarGeoengineering #ClimateChange #SciFi bbc.com/future/article/2023101

The White House has released a report on researching the impacts of blocking out the sun, also known as solar geoengineering. Solar geoengineering is a hypothetical method of cooling down our overheated planet by continuously spewing reflective aerosol particles into the atmosphere. Many environmental leaders and scientists who study geoengineering oppose it, calling it “outlandish” and “a desperate idea”. #SolarGeoengineering #WhiteHouse #ClimateChange thecooldown.com/green-tech/whi

I agree with this call from ~70 researchers in physical and biological sciences to boost research on #SRM #sunblock #solargeoengineering impacts and options. But they left out key constituencies. What about social scientists? And developing nations? 7 out of 70...??
