APPARENTLY THIS NEEDS TO BE MADE CLEAR:
If you only support randomised controlled trials, then you only support research suitable for experimental study.
That excludes studying structural & social determinants, like racism & poverty.
This is socially regressive. Simple.
All UK Medical Research Council units (aka 'centres for excellence') must now propose 'challenges' that they will 'solve' within 7-14 years.
This is socially regressive & suggests a deep misunderstanding of population health. No centre can 'solve' structural inequities. Yet they *should* be focussing more on these issues than ever. I have asked for information on the diversity & representation of the people who made this decision.
