Kind of funny how time spirals/circles back to itself...

I remember hearing about #Everything2 from #Slashdot circa, I dunno, 2002?
I think I tried it a couple times, but never really got it. Seemed like a chaotic encyclopedia, nothing more.

Then @amin mentioned it recently and brought it to my attention.

I just spent a few minutes clicking through random soft links (the grid of links at the bottom of each page (node).

I get it now! This could even be my filler reading to replace horrid reddit and even more horrid news.

So #Slashdot has started actively wrecking their page layout if they detect an ad blocker. The first screenshot is when I first clicked a link to visit their page. You can see it is rendered properly. Upon clicking "OK" however, you get the second message and the page gets reverted to plaint ext.

So no, the ad blocker didn't break the page, I could see it just fine. You actively broke it on purpose because of the ad blocker.

I've frequented Slashdot since 2001. Though many have left since, I stuck around. I watched user comments slowly degrade over time, watched my own comments start to automatically get downvoted since about a decade ago, but now may be the point I just stop following that site all together.

I still like the stories they post, but the comments have been completely taken over by far right trolls. It's really sad.
