“There have been boats stored … along the Marrams for over a hundred years. The parish council feels that it is iniquitous for people who own only holiday cottages in the village to try to alter something which has been in situ for several decades and is integral to the way of life here,"

“If you buy a house in a fishing village by the sea, you can’t expect to try to get rid of historic fishermen who have been here for years and years. Fishing is a dying trade and it’s a beautiful thing to see these boats come in and out. If you’re upset about that, go buy a house [further] inland.”

The Guardian · Holiday home owners threaten decades-old way of life for Norfolk fishersBy Donna Ferguson

It was lovely to help celebrate the centenary of the #Norfolk County Music Festival today!

It was founded by a man who was worried the introduction of the ‘wireless’ in people’s homes would mean less demand for live music.

100 years later and music is still being made and heard across the county.

Watching the kids come together from different local schools (state and private) and put on really amazing performances was heart warming.

Here’s to the next 100 years!

My good friend, Shane Brown writes wonderfully atmospheric ghost and horror stories with historic #Norwich and mysterious #Norfolk as their backdrop.

His best work to date, ‘Welcome to Marlington’ is sadly often ignored in favour of his shorter ghost stories. He refused to name check Norwich in the title, because he didn’t want bad luck to befall our fine city.

But the real city seeps through

Beyond Boundaries · Influences from Norwich in “Welcome to Marlington.”Welcome to Marlington is a horror novel about a quiet city in the East of England that becomes witness to a violent crimewave that may or may not be linked to the legends of supernatural creatures …

Yesterday I went to see Britain’s smallest wildlife trust reserve which is only 0.025-hectare in size. It consists of a single ancient Hawthorn tree surrounded by a wooden fence. It is called the Hethel Old Thorn.

Really need to visit it again in May once it’s in bloom when it will be looking its best.

Perhaps I’ve just not been paying attention…but I don’t recall the UK monarchy inviting many of its political visitors to Sandringham…maybe Buckingham Palace, but not up to the calm tranquillity of #Norfolk.

Admittedly none of us normal folk are going to get to see him. But if we’re going to put out the red carpet and pull out all the stops for anyone, #Zelenskyy deserves it everyday over #Trump.

@ChrisMayLA6 High on the list would be Tory #Norfolk County Council, not just from underfunding but from a sordid symbiosis with developers, corporate housebuilders & road contractors that has lead them to fetishise roadbuilding. Norfolk is £50m in deficit, with councillors flailing & in secret talks with the Government. Most of the deficit is due to one single scheme the "Western Link Road". Their conduct in trying to force their scheme through has been appalling. Bankruptcy would expose them.
