NAWALLI brings Mesoamerican religious beliefs to the gaming table, in the form of a tight and tense lane battler. Read more in this Meeple Mountain review.

Happy #WorldFrogDay! #DYK there are currently 7582 species of frogs documented, about 88% of all known amphibians?
This happy greenstone #frog lives at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC. Unfortunately very little info is available about its exact origins beyond it being pre-conquest #Mesoamerican; museum records list it as having been collected from the Valley of #Mexico, Chalco, possibly Veracruz, and added to the collection in 1901.
Dimensions: L13.5 x W 16.0 x D 25.0 cm.
For #MosaicMonday, here is Diego Rivera's 1956 Exekatlkalli mosaic on the façade of La Casa de los Vientos (The House of the Winds, home of Dolores Olmedo) in #Acapulco, #Mexico. It was one of his last great works before his death in 1957. In addition to the depictions of #Mesoamerican deities Quetzalcóatl, Cōātlīcue, and Tlāloc, there is a Xoloitzcuintle (Mexican Hairless Dog) and a "Sapo-Rana" ("Toad-Frog" - a character based on Rivera's nickname).

If you are interested in the subject, a good article is the The Mesoamerican Connection in the Southwest by Randall H. McGuire.
The article pushes on the theory that #Mesoamerican pochteca traders exerted political and economic control over the #Native cultures in #Oasisamerica and goes down the possible and confirmed interactions.

After seeing the ruins of #Mesoamerican cities all my life, I love finding artistic representations of what they used to look like.
