Wow! Cool! Indeed! #jigsawpuzzles became very popular during the great depression. That's when there was a huge explosion of newly-unemployed people learning how to #handcut wooden jigsaws. Modern die-cut cardboard puzzles came later.

The pieces drawn in this cartoon are definitely modeled after the handcut puzzles of the era, with the 'whimsies' pieces of the duck and the elephant.

Covid brought about another boom in the jigsaw world as well. Lots of folks home with spare time!
