The #fluConf retrospective article we'd planned is finally live!
The #fluConf retrospective article we'd planned is finally live!
We experienced some setbacks while processing recordings of the live sessions from #fluConf2025, but we've finally updated our program to include links to the videos:
I rarely use this account to promote things that are not directly related to the Interpeer Project, but this #FluConf article by @librecast's @dentangle is so much aligned with our own Values, I should have written it.
https://www.librecast.net/fluconf-2025/
It's also why our projects are in close contact, and we're working on ways to collaborate as much as possible.
1/2
It is now 21:00 UTC, which means we have officially reached the end of our scheduled program.
Thanks so much to everyone who helped, contributed, or participated in #fluConf2025 !
We're going to take a bit of time to rest, but beyond that we'll gather up recordings from our sessions and any supplemental materials (slides, linked resources, and so on). We want to ensure that those who weren't able to participate in the live event can catch up when they get the chance.
We're coming up on the final session of #fluConf2025, an essay by @anna titled "Daring to dream: Reclaiming our connections and building our resilience"
...and that's a wrap on our last video session. A recording will be made available some time after the event, and we'll have some supplementary links to add to the session's notes for those who want to follow up on @simplymath's research.
Coming up next we have a presentation from @simplymath on his PhD work on safety-critical machine learning, titled "Safety Critical Machine Learning Does Not Exist"
https://fluconf.online/sessions/safety-critical-machine-learning-does-not-exist/
Starting in about seven minutes, see you there!
This next session will *not* be recorded, though there are older recordings with similar subject matter available and the content will be made available as a blog post.
You'll need to attend to catch this particular session, which will start in about five minutes:
Hopefully you had a chance to grab snacks and refill your water in this brief break.
Up next we have a presentation from @mlncn titled "Scaling Community Conversations and Decisions", this time hosted on his coop's BigBlueButton instance.
Details about the session are available here:
https://fluconf.online/sessions/scaling-community-conversations-and-decisions/
Yes, I was similarly delighted, but found out very late. Hopped on a session.. hoping to be able to hop onto some more.
I also watched the start of a true must-see video by Brett Sheffield of @librecast ..
"Zen and the Art of Multicast: An Inquiry Into Values"
What a fantastic inaugural #FluConf Day 1! Such a diverse range of presentations, both in content and form.
A truly distributed conference, mostly self-hosted on static websites #PeerTube #Mastodon #Jitsi #BigBlueButton #OwnCast etc.
Thanks to @spectra for hosting our video for @librecast !
Looking forward to Day 2 of #FluConf2025
Merci @fluconf and everyone for getting involved !
The last session of Day One of #fluConf2025 will be @coopcloud's
"Co-op Cloud: Grow Your Own International Democratic Tech Federation"
https://fluconf.online/sessions/co-op-cloud-grow-your-own-international-democratic-tech-federation/
hosted as a livestream via their cooperatively operated Owncast instance, starting in 15 minutes (at 18:00 UTC)
Ooh I am so knackered. But it's definitely worth it to see folks enjoying #fluconf2025 .
It's great to have an online event and we can experiment and present our ideas in safety.
We're not so isolated now.
Already @dentangle, @anna and @wim_v12e have published their contributions.
I'm looking forward to experiencing the rest of the programme.
#fluConf2025 just started : .
It took me a moment to settle into a distributed online conference that isn't "just" following a live stream but rater reading along a blog post or watching a video (or whatever the authors preference is) and following the discussions that spin around that in the #fediverse but I think I already like that approach. Thanks for making that possible @fluconf
Hello, and thanks for coming to my #FluConf presentation "Zen and the Art of Multicast" at #FluConf2025!
If you have any questions, comments or feedback, reply to this thread and ask.
Dont forget to @ me to make sure I see it, and please make your post unlisted so we don't spam the Fediverse.
The first session of #fluConf2025 is by @dentangle
The pre-recorded video is titled "Zen and the Art of Multicast - An Inquiry Into Technology and Values", and can be found at:
https://www.librecast.net/fluconf-2025/
The video is supplemented by a transcript and additional media.
Our program is available online and is made up of a mix of pre-recorded videos, live sessions, and articles.
Some of these are already available to be enjoyed, and you're of course under no obligation to view them in order or at all.
Nevertheless, we'll be following a schedule to highlight them one at a time, to introduce their topics, and to give some dedicated time for those who contributed them to answer questions and engage in discussion.
The aim of #fluConf is to provide an on alternative for the many people who are already disabled by #covid, or are immune-compromised, or living with those who are vulnerable, or just hold the reasonable position of not wanting to be infected with a potentially deadly or debilitating illness.
So, if you're reading this, welcome to #fluConf2025 !
