I want open file formats with alt-text metadata that are compatible with most Fediverse software:
Upload an image or video to Mastodon, Pixelfed or whatever, that has alt-text metadata and it will automatically display the alt-text in the Fediverse.
Download the file and it will keep the alt-text.

Bonus: A metadata field for Fediverse creator. So people can download and repost media files and they will display the original creator just like Mastodon can do with link previews.

EDIT: In the replies we've gathered so far:
* There is an existing issue for Mastodon: github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i (I don't open Microsoft GitHub™, so I didn't read it)
* PNG and probably many other file formats already have appropriate metadata tags that could be used.
* Fedi devs have to agree on one way to implement this -> #FEP
* While uploading a file you should be able to edit or replace the metadata alt text with your own alt text and then be able to choose whether you want to replace the file's metadata or not (So your post can display the alt text that is specifically relevant to your post, while the file can be downloaded with a more general alt text).

Pitch When a user is uploading an image file, any text from the Description field in the EXIF Metadata could be pulled to pre-populate the alt text field. Motivation As the description field serves...

Dear Mastodon makers, could we add some more options to the "Automatic Deletion" section of settings?

Currently it's only for our own posts but allowing for bookmark, favorite, and boost deletion with similar options would be pretty handy.

We need to keep this complex machine in top condition!

@medium can you add a meta tag to articles on your platform allowing for author attribution anywhere they're shared on Mastodon?

Your systems know my Mastodon handle for my about page, and

<meta name="fediverse:creator" content="@ davidaugust @ mastodon.online">

(without spaces) in head section of my articles will let people know I wrote them no matter who shares them on Mastodon.

A feature request I'd like to file if I can find the submit spot for #mastodon

…while we can click "Hide" on an image tht someone posts, there doesn't seem to be a way to hide the images in a news link, or website link.

What are those called now? They used to be called TwitterCards in the old place I think.

It's unpleasant to have to see pics of you-know-who or his cronies in your feed even though I *do* want to keep seeing the news toots.

#featureRequest #WebApp @Gargron

I threw this #FeatureRequest on the #Mastodon #GitHub a couple days ago, based on conversations I keep seeing people have about #AdultContent on the #Fediverse, the whole "#MinorsDNI" thing, and the potential legal issue of not getting any #AgeVerification for #NSFW content. I figure this is a good way to get the ball rolling and to have a centralized discussion in front of developers.

If anyone has thoughts, or wants to upvote or downvote it, follow the link. Either way, it would help if people boost this post so people can see that.

@ivory hi friends, I think Ivory is missing an implementation of filtering by language. I’d like to configure what languages toots I see and which ones get filtered out (depending on the language set in the toot). I am hoping this will also improve adoption of the toot-language feature for accessibility reasons. #featureRequest

#FeatureRequest Now that my block lists are seemingly overflowing, I would like the option to even remove notifications that one of my terms has been filtered.
Rather than this, perhaps a kind of scoreboard or indicator within my filter list with links to all the filtered posts from there so I can dive into the topic, if I ever feel the need.

What if Blue Sky starter packs could get bridged all at once?

I'm chasing down people one at a time and just saw that my current fandom has a starter pack...

I assume there's some sort of permission / consent issue but these are all public accounts, right? So it's mostly a technical issue?

Replied in thread

One of the *biggest* problems with Mastodon that encourages reply-guy behavior and gasslighting about racism is the lack of reply visibility under threads.

Floofs don't know how often a question is being asked, or they can't see racist comments being made.

Here's some good news: there's work happening on at least partially solving that pawblem. github.com/mastodon/mastodon/p

Design feature request.

When someone posts an image without any post content, there is no space between the top of the image and the bottom of the profile.

If someone wants to view replies in that image post, it's an exercise of creeping around the edges to find the exact place to click.

Is it possible to either add some clickable space, or maybe a "View Replies" trigger/button?

So OmniFocus can see my calendar, so it knows what is happening and when it is happening. I can manually set a due date for tasks. I would love to be able to set a calendar event as a due date? If I need to buy a gift for someone why can't I set the due date as "Mums birthday party" and have the date pulled from that event and maybe even updated if the date changes? That would be so good.

Is there any way to see the alt description I added to audio posts? (I’m on mastodon.social web in the browser, not using an app) On the “Media” tab of my profile, I see an “Alt” button on the audio files, but the player/preview in posts that contained them don’t seem to have it.

Toot example:
mastodon.social/@meganmariehar
Media:

Maybe that is a #featureRequest?
