Two facets of dartmoor: looking out over East Vitifer Mine, where most of the remains are now hidden by vegetation, though fencing middle right and left betray the presence of shafts. On the horizon is smoke from swaling, an ancient practice used by landowners and commoners to clear 'overgrown' vegetation and stimulate new growth. Yet it is now being questioned because of its negative impact on peatlands and wildlife, let alone climate change.

Pareidolia is the phenomenon of seeing human and animal faces in inanimate things… I was reminded of the term when I looked up and saw a face in the trunk of this beautiful oak at Moortown, Tavistock yesterday, #Dartmoor, #Devon #trees #face #photography #landscapephotography

I don’t often get close to tors because of my lack of mobility, with the exception of Combestone tor when I’m well enough to travel there… I like to take photos with my zoom lens like this one I think of white tor near Peter Tavy and look at all the detail in the landscape .
