Paul<p>Thanks to friend whose early info. helped save me a wasted journey to Somerset....I ended up at Bowling Green Marsh <a href="https://mas.to/tags/Exeter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Exeter</span></a> where this Great Egret was nearly the most 'exciting' bird of the morning. A Firecrest in the lane outside was better though. One of my favourite James stories is a view from a hill, set unusually in the heat of summer. </p><p>The landscape felt eerie this week, as though the heat had stopped time. There was a heavy silence and I expected to see a Victorian miner or farm labourer, perhaps a Roundhead solider, trapped in a history heat vortex.</p>
