Pauline von Hellermann<p><a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/ClimateDiary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ClimateDiary</span></a> Current work on marine governance in Sussex (2 months project) has been a revelation. I now some understanding of UK environmental planning; a bit embarrassing but was quite oblivious to most of it. E.g., a page here from the En Ag's "Meeting Our Future Water Needs" on how the Southeast, where I live, faces quite high water shortages. All this is planned towards, but most people, I think, don't have a clue (except the reply guys, who will now educate me no doubt 😊 )</p>

It’s so important to understand the people and forces rapidly reshaping our world; and this new piece by Amy Westervelt (one of the best climate journalists of all) does an excellent job introducing you to the inner world of Thiel, Musk and co. It’s crazy, it’s horrible, but it exists and affects us all. </p><p><a href="https://drilled.media/news/network-state" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">drilled.media/news/network-sta</span><span class="invisible">te</span></a></p>
Petra van Cronenburg<p>We have not enough rain. I know that without any app. Because always, when the traditional magnolia bloom in northern Alsace, it rains a lot. The splendour often lasts only a few days.<br>Now we've only had grey, dry days. Wonderful to see the flowers. But bad for the drying soil.<br>If you connect nature's calendar with "traditional" remembered weather you can see the shift: <a href="https://www.cronenburg.net/magic/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">cronenburg.net/magic/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/ClimateDiary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ClimateDiary</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/magnolia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>magnolia</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/culturalHeritage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>culturalHeritage</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/shiftingBaseline" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>shiftingBaseline</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/NatureMatchCuts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NatureMatchCuts</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/traditions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>traditions</span></a></p>

Anne Deschaine<p>Two days of sun and warmth have been a delight. Let's hope the approaching thunderstorms, golf ball-sized hail, and 60-70mph gusts (and potential tornadoes!?!) don't totally ruin the high.</p><p>We seem to get more dramatic weather lately. Those three bursts of hail the other day, the spates of strong gusts (hate them especially), the actual thunderstorms instead of just rain. They do come and go quickly, usually, but it's definitely an escalation of PDX "normal".</p><p><a href="https://zirk.us/tags/ClimateDiary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ClimateDiary</span></a></p>

Mike Kelly<p>I watched the documentary film of Wilding yesterday, which is based on the excellent Isabella Tree book. The regeneration of the land and the flourishing of the ecosystem at Knepp is so inspiring. It show us what we're missing; it shows us alternative futures.</p><p>A few caveats – there are some poor decisions made in telling the story. They have actors playing the younger versions of Tree and her partner, in numerous golden syrup dappled sunburst shots, and there are some very clunky dramatic recreations of key moments from the project's history. Also the sheer poshness and privilege of the main protagonists does grate at times. There is little or no discussion of the economics of the enterprise. (There is more detail about that in the book.) Thus it becomes a film about a personal journey more than any kind of useful blueprint for wider action.</p><p>I don't want to sound mean – exceptionally, these people are taking their privilege and doing absolutely the right thing with it, so no complaints there. It's an amazing achievement.</p><p>I can see the potential broad appeal of the human narrative of Knepp's rewilding, which is what they've aimed for, but really, it's the flora and fauna which are the stars.</p><p><a href="https://post.lurk.org/tags/rewilding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rewilding</span></a> <a href="https://post.lurk.org/tags/climate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>climate</span></a> <a href="https://post.lurk.org/tags/ClimateDiary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ClimateDiary</span></a> <a href="https://post.lurk.org/tags/climateaction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>climateaction</span></a></p><p><a href="https://www.wildingmovie.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">wildingmovie.com</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>

When a person wins a lottery and becomes unhinged by more wealth than they could ever need.

When a billionaire strikes extractive commercial gold and becomes unhinged by society rewarding them with more power than anyone could be responsible with.

When a society hits the oil and gas jackpot and becomes unhinged with more power than the thin film of regenerative wealth on a rocky planet can metabolise.

We end up where we are

#Dartington Trust, once a global reference point for sustainable education and progressive arts, is now abandoning any of that values. They abruptly closed the Schumacher College leaving both staff and students stranded (after they already paid their fees), and now are selling away the Forest Garden, a pioneering 31-yrs-old agroforesty project. For context, it might be worth to know that few months ago, the trust opened a high tech shiny gym
