I listen mostly to classical music, and I'm looking for an alternative for Amazon Music, which I find almost anything I want and with a high definition sound, including Dolby Atmos.

I found two potential alternatives, Qobuz (French), and Idagio (from Berlin). Both seem quite good options. I'm tempted to choose Qobuz, because sometimes we listen to other genres at home, but Idagio looks like a paradise to classical music lovers.

A few years ago, I tried to find alternatives before subscribing to Amazon. What a good surprise now, I can even choose!

P. S. Amazon Music cancelled.

So, cancelled my Spotify subscription.

What are you using to stream music and podcasts?

- Apple Music?
- Tidal?
- Amazon Music?
- Napster?
- youtube music?

Anything else?
I will try most of these apps for a month to see what makes me happy.

But happy to hear about your opinions, especially how good the UI/UX of the (Android) App is.
Oh and it should work on Linux too.

I just saw a video of an artist responding to a fan who asked if they should stream their music on Tidal rather than on Spotify. The artist's answer: If they got all their Spotify streams on Tidal, they would earn around 4'500 $ instead of 800 $. With Apple Music, it'd still be around 2'400 $.

The numbers vary a bit, but looking up payout rates, this seems to be the right ballpark. I didn't find a handy table, so take the attached AI summary with a grain of salt.

There are almost no network effects on Spotify, but they're the biggest player, so artists can't afford not to be there. But if you care about their revenue – or even just sticking it to a de-facto monopolist –, consider switching your app. It's just a small inconvenience, but others will benefit from it. :)

#Spotify banned me a couple of years ago for illegally downloading songs so I've been trying to train Amazon #music

#AmazonMusic should ask me why I click ❤️ on a song but I skip it the next time it comes up.

I'm not fickle. I just don't want to hear the same damn songs again. I want to hear songs LIKE that song.

For me, we'll have achieved #AGI when Amazon figures that out.

As suspected, Spotify is using generic stock Muzak bought from production libraries so they don’t have to pay royalties to artists.

Not surprised, since CEO Daniel Ek refers to music as “content” and thinks it takes little effort to create. 🙄

This is one of the ways “content” hurts the arts and severs the relationship between artists & their audience.

In #enshittification news:

After giving my samsung phone a badly needed factory data reset, I have discovered that I can no longer use #AmazonMusic to download songs that I paid for and use them as ringtones.

This seems like it should have been a completely reasonable use for a piece of media that I supposedly own.

More and more, I am learning that if I don't own a physical copy of something I don't really own it.
