It seems unhelpful to me that whenever someone says “Trump proposal X would be clearly illegal” a thousand people all chorus in to say “yes but SCOTUS is in the bag, it doesn’t matter.” Sure, the corrupt majority might sign off on anything. But we need to ACT like the law still matters.

In another 8th Circuit ruling limiting Voting Rights Act enforcement, a panel rules private individuals/groups in 7 states have no right to sue under Section 208, which allows voters who need help because of a disability or inability to read/write to get help from a person of their choice

*The Trump administration has defied or frustrated the court in more than one third of the 165 cases where the courts have ruled against them.
*Since April, SCOTUS has granted relief to Trump in all 15 of the emergency applications, writing a decision to explain its reasoning only three times.

Bluesky Social · Don Moynihan (@donmoyn.bsky.social)New, from me: until recently the big question was “what happens when Trump defies the courts?” The answer, as it turns out, is that SCOTUS will support him. The new question is what are the consequences for American democracy and governance?🧵 https://donmoynihan.substack.com/p/when-youre-a-star-the-supreme-court

The Supreme Court's emergency docket decision to allow Trump to gut the Department of Education is maybe the most pro-Trump, pro-Authoritarian ruling the Court has made in service of Trump thus far, and I've read them all.

If John Roberts does not want to be publicly condemned; he could stop making monstrous decisions devoid of law or fact.

And Roberts does not get to "both sides" political violence in the United States; which is all-but-exclusively by Trump and those with him.
