Celebrating turkey day the #MST3K way: watching #TheMadsAreBack (S01E09 - Phantom From Space).
“It looks suspiciously like something is happening in the movie, but there’s no precedent for it.”
“That’s actually a pretty good effect! What’s it doing in this movie?”
I watched a few episodes of #TheMadsAreBack recently and came away with a couple of thoughts:
1: As much as I enjoy the comedy of later #MST3K episodes and all of RiffTrax, I really love what Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff bring to TMAB.
2: As much as I enjoy the clean, midwest-flavored comedy of all MST3K episodes and the vast majority of RiffTrax, I really love that Trace and TV's Frank allow themselves to use salty language at will. It's really refreshing to hear adults being adults.
Watching THE MADS ARE BACK episode 44, MUTINY IN OUTER SPACE (February 2024)

Tonight #TheMadsAreBack are riffing my one of my favorite bad movies, I Accuse My Parents
I've been on the clock since 0700 Saturday and have 8 hours left. It hasn't been all that bad, and there's a new episode of #TheMadsAreBack tonight waiting for me.
After this, the road to May 11th gets easier. Whew!
The Mads from MST3k have forever affected how I see this logo. This logo appeared during one of their movies, and Frank yelled out, “Hey, it’s Columbo’s wife!” Now, whenever I see her, no matter what the circumstance, I giggle.
(Yes, it’s one of those nice days at work where I can watch a movie. In this case, it’s 1940’s “His Girl Friday.”)
Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday have been very trying, but things get better now:
Tonight, The Mads are tackling a Bela Lugosi movie I've never seen before!
I'm going to get home, walk the bebé, put a pizza in the oven, and get into my Zelda pajamas. It'll be a good night.
Seeing Trace Beaulieu and Frank Conniff (and all the other awesome cameo stars) in the Svengoolie Stomp music video is always a joy
