HAPPY BIRTHDAY! To all of you born in the month of June! June marks the summer solstice, typically occurring around June 20-21, which signifies the longest daylight hours of the year. The name "June" originates from the Latin word Junius, or Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and childbirth. In the U.S., June is celebrated as National Dairy Month, promoting all things dairy—milk, cheese, yogurt, and ice cream. LET THE SUMMER BEGIN! #fyp, #Books4life, #Reader-club, #Meme #books, #solarpunk

Considering deleting my Bluesky account. Every time I post on there nobody sees it so the whole thing feels like a waste of time and energy. Thought I would join to connect with other people who read and blog but it's been pretty much like posting into the void over there. 😆

Our 2025 Roadmap: Building the Future of WordPress Federation

We’re excited to share this roadmap — there’s a lot happening with the ActivityPub plugin, and we can’t wait to show you what’s coming next.

We often refer to this roadmap in GitHub issues and discussions, but until now, we haven’t published a full roadmap post — nor a formal changelog. This post is a first step toward keeping the community more informed about what’s planned and what’s coming up next.

Our goal for this year is to finalize the full ActivityPub experience […]

Kindling the love of reading

Amazon's
#Kindle platform is, if memory serves, the world's largest #ebook platform. Its Kindle #reader app is pretty much the most widely used ebook reader.

The Kindle platform has a feature called the
#Reading #Challenge. You can't make it shut the fuck up. You can't make it go the fuck away. You can't even hide it in the app any more. You used to be able to tell it not to waste your screen space displaying, but they took that ability away not long ago. Probably their developers were butt-hurt because too many people turned it off, and removed the ability to hide it for that reason. (At least you can still tell the system not to display Kindle Reader's push notifications.)

There's two reasons why the Kindle Reading Challenge is a bad idea that should just die.

The first is because
nearly everybody hates it. If you do a web search for Kindle Reading Challenge, what you're most likely to get is pages of results of people asking how to turn the damned thing off.

The second is because if,
INSIDE YOUR EBOOK READER APP, you've got to gamify reading to get people to read books ... you've already lost.

New #Introduction post!

Hello I'm Noelle! I'm a blogger and reader who also plays musical instruments (guitar, keyboard) and takes photos. I believe that Meta and Google are not only killing the planet through their data centers but also democracy through the division their products have created. They are also taking over our lives by how much time we spend a day with their products (email, social media, YouTube).

Continued thread

Stripped it down, gave it a thorough clean. Battery is good and not pillowed, everything works, you can hook it up to USB in storage mode and load ePub books on. Only some irrelevant scratches on the rear of the case.

There was a whole bunch of "sexy horror" books on it, which I deleted because I don't ever read that. Now it has the Douglas Adams collection instead.

I like this thing. Really good find! Now that I know he doesn't sell broken crap, I want to go back again and look through this guys other e-waste 😁

Car boot sale loot: A knockoff Rubik's cube, a mallet head slightly lighter than Mjölnir, some stainless steel forceps that are less junk than my AliExpress ones (which @vaviurka now uses for assembling teddy bear joints) and this thing:

A Samsung E65 e-book reader. Touchscreen with included pen, keyboard, replaceable battery, 2 GB flash + microSD slot. A few scratches on the back.

I mostly bought it because it was €5 and seems fully functional. I can probably find a use for it

My current one is still a Kindle Keyboard (with added reading light).

@vaviurka got a train puzzle for her grandma and a tiny bedsheet.
