Recorded some nyckelharpa in the studio today for an educational production! It makes me very happy to know that some children will be exposed to the sound of my instrument and playing at school! Hooray for people making great teaching resources and great teachers using them in their lessons!

Great news! As of next week Oldbury Academy will begin having Drum & Guitar lessons every Tuesday! If your child is interested in this, remind them to see the creative arts team about signing up.

Attention to fellow musicians: I just tried this app with a student and was really impressed as we were almost in absolute sync (latency was minimum) - my student was playing over Wi-Fi, so there are still room to improvement (ethernet cable)! Amazing.

I studied #Hindustani #tala for a few years with Maya Misra, widow of Pt Ramesh Misra. Tala (or taal) is the system of counting beat cycles using the various sounds (bols) that a tabla makes. A few years ago I presented a lecture on the most basic taals. Each tala has a characteristic set of bols (called the theka). After you learn the theka, you practice accelerating how many bols are on a beat.
