Truth is so hard to tell, it sometimes needs fiction to make it plausible.

It's said that comparison is the thief of joy, but when I compare my workspace to Francis Bacon's, I feel better. https://www.francis-bacon.com/node/7444 #workspace #FrancisBacon #clutter
Dit boek over #francisbacon zou ik graag lezen/bezitten .. maar het is duur in aankoop.
Wat doe ik:
- spelen op de lotto
- toch maar kopen en een week boterhammen eten :)
- het uit m'n hoofd zetten
The inspiration for the head of Innocent X comes from a still from ‘Battleship Potemkin’ (1925), a silent black and white film by #SergeiEisenstein. The image depicts the panic of a wounded nurse whose smashed pince-nez spectacles are splayed across her blood stained face. This fearful image held a fascination for Bacon who always kept a copy of it in his studio. It encapsulates his philosophy, ‘Painting is the pattern of one's own nervous system being projected on canvas’.
I need #ugly things to inspire my #paintingart …
(When you saw something really ugly, please share.)
Talking more about inner ugliness.
I don’t believe in physical ugliness. Actions can be ugly, not appearances.
(Bit tired of ‘pretty pictures’, no offence)
Yes, it’s not an easy task to paint something like this.
Seeing #francisbacon art is inspiring… how on earth did he create all that intruiging #art?
Well, the "mom" made it sound like as if reading books, i.e. the consumption of ideas (real learning requires additional steps), were a cool and mighty weapon, as to incentivize the kid.
Sir #FrancisBacon seems to have coined this phrase for modern times:
"Knowledge is power.—Nam et ipsa scientia potestas est."
I agree that #knowledge in the form of know-how of natural #sciences can also create #weapons.
I do *not* agree with US fantasy author...

Some #books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested; some books are to be read only in parts; others to be read, but not curiously; and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention. Some #books also may be read by deputy, and extracts made of them by others; but that would be only in the less important arguments, and the meaner sort of books, else distilled #books are like common distilled waters, flashy things. #ofstudies #FrancisBacon

#OTD #FrancisBacon, English #Philosopher & statesman, is born.
He wrote "Of Gardens" - a splendid essay w/ many #Gardening quotables:
"The breath of #Flowers is far sweeter in the air...
There ought to be #Gardens for all the months of the year."
He also wrote,
"A man's #Nature runs either to #Herbs or #Weeds."
In 1606, Francis created the #Garden #Walk at Gray's Inn. The idea was to walk among the #Violets, #Primroses, #Cherry #Trees, & #Birch. People loved it.
