"Hulporganisatie GHF noemt berichten over doden verzinsels van Hamas De Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), die noodhulp in Gaza moet uitdelen, ontkent dat er vandaag mensen zijn gedood en gewond zijn geraakt bij de distributiepunten. De omstreden hulporganisatie spreekt van verzinsels die "de wereld in worden geholpen door Hamas". Bij een aanval in de buurt van het hulppunt in Rafah zijn zeker 31 mensen gedood, zeggen de gezondheidsautoriteiten in Gaza. Onafhankelijke media, zoals persbureaus AP en AFP, hebben de slachtoffers zelf gezien. Ook het Rode Kruis spreekt van tientallen doden en gewonden. Een Britse arts in het Nasser-ziekenhuis in Khan Younis zegt dat het een enorme slachtpartij was en dat iedereen die daar wordt binnengebracht kogelwonden heeft. Desondanks beweert de GHF dat de verdeling van hulp vandaag probleemloos is verholpen. Correspondent Israël en de Palestijnse Gebieden Nasrah Habiballah: "De GHF gaf eerder aan dat er geen aanwezigheid van het Israëlische leger zou zijn in de buurt van die distributiepunten. Particuliere Amerikaanse bedrijven zouden voor de beveiliging zorgen en het Israëlische leger zou alleen betrokken zijn bij de coördinatie. Maar volgens Palestijnen is het leger dus wel degelijk in het gebied aanwezig en valt het mensen aan. Het Israëlische leger zegt op dit moment nergens van te weten, maar dat zegt niet zo veel. We hebben vaak gezien dat de eerste reactie van het leger ontkennend is, maar dat daar later niets van blijkt te kloppen."

Whenever you hear someone talking about increasing food production to end famine, the key thing to understand is that modern day famines are not caused by a lack of production, but by an intentional curbing of distribution to the people in famine.

There is no technological fix to modern day famine, and no amount of production increases that can address it, because the cause is societal, the only solution to dismantle the social structures preventing the distribution of food in the first place.
