Why do folks content warn food pics? What's the rationale?
I mean... I don't understand the obsession with looking at pictures of other people's food when there are cats everywhere, so I'm not complaining by any stretch. I just don't understand the practice.

We now have a government built on the World Wrestling Entertainment business model. It is time to shift gears and fight back using the same model. For example, understand the script calls for a regular Friday night showdown. Be prepared. Lock the doors. Unplug the computers. Require two factor authentication. Invite investigative reporters into the room. Bring in the cameras. Have the Judge on speed dial. Duplicate the web sites. Publish the lies beside the facts.

well yes, you can autoexpand #contentWarning

and get an eyeful of #porn or #gore completely unexpectedly and unwantedly at times

sometimes in completely inappropriate settings, like browsing #Mastodon in public

so i disagree: we can't depend upon the Mastodon setting autoexpand content warnings

it's happened to me:

i would use a seemingly benign #tag then i would research the appropriateness of the tag by clicking on it and...

that's a lot of dick i was not expecting

😬

#contentWarning and #tagging are very different

tagged content flows by at the same level of exposure

content warning hides content from general consumption, putting up an additional barrier to engage with it

for plenty of topics: sex, violence, etc, it is an utterly valid ask

but to ask someone to content warn something that doesn't require a content warn by any coherent rationale?

this is asking the world to bend to your personal preferences on contrived entitlement

yes: #tagging is a completely different story than #contentWarning and i agree with you wholeheartedly

it allows people who want to be engaged in the same content as you to find you

and the inverse:

it allows others who want to avoid the content you are engaged in to avoid you

and *that* is the way it should be

i am not entirely sure there is or ever will be a better option

@sandwich

i never understood #contentWarning #politics

i understand avoiding politics for peace of mind and #mentalHealth

but that's a #personal #responsibility

politics affects your life. you are engaged with its effects, whether you like it or not

that means politics is absolutely unavoidably for general consumption

the #content of the entire #fediverse cannot bend to satisfy the personal needs of some on this topic

it just can't

and frankly, it's rather #entitled to think otherwise

I read in Heather Cox Richardson's Letters from America this morning Republican representatives are willing to give President Trump free reign because they believe the courts will strike down anything he does that is unconstitutional. That is an abdication of their authority and one of the purposes for which they were elected. As a Congressional representative, it doesn't matter which party you represent, stand up and do your job.
