Cabinet minister on the Today Programme a few minutes ago said that “anyone who has any transport needs will benefit from the freeze in fuel duty”. I wish this was his idea of a funny April Fool, given the 50% increase in single bus fares a couple of months ago, 4.6% rise in rail fares last month, and impact of the driving encouraged by a(nother) duty freeze on pedestrians and cyclists. But while if asked the government will say it “doesn’t think that transport is just cars and really wants a to encourage more sustainable transport” I think he was serious.

Car Brain makes public transportation suck. Two train stations, one in Japan and one in America. In Japan, pedestrians and cyclists can easily access the station and there are groceries, convenience stores, and restaurants and tons of bicycle parking by the station. In America there is a freeway interchange to a 4-lane divided highway surrounding the station. Who is going to commute by train there? #CarBrain #PublicTransportation #Urbanism #FuckCars

Things I miss from Spain: Parks for pedestrians instead of cars.

The only entrance to one of the major parks in the city has no pedestrian accommodation.

It's not comfortable getting passed that close at the speeds cars regularly take on that road.

I can't be the only one bothered by it.

@justyourluck partly it depends on how you define running one. Does speeding up when the light goes orange count, or is it only entering the intersection while the light is red?

Also, per a discussion I had with a cop in the car next to me once, a bicycle nearly at the white line has run the light, but a car with the driver seat above the line hasn't. I stopped next to the passenger window and got told off for "running the light".

"That common sight – SUVs and pick-up trucks spilling out of parking bays – has prompted Standards Australia to propose making car parks longer to accommodate them.

"The group has been inundated with responses to its idea of increasing the length of parking bays by 20 centimetres, to 5.6 metres. It has received more than 1200 confidential submissions from community groups, governments and others, and will announce its decision shortly."
