#ThinSectionThursday A C19th thin section of Scottish agate, using different polarized light techniques, from the Heddle collection in the Hunterian museum. Agate is basically quartz, but has a distinctive micro/nano-structure of tiny elongate, often twisted fibres at right angles to the bands.
