Diego Luna hosted Jimmy Kimmel over the past week and started strong calling out POTUS for his anti-immigrant views and how important immigrants are to America. His monologue ends with a call to action to call your legislators and support organizations liike Public Counsel and Kids In Need of Defense. Could I love him more after watching Andor season 2? 🤔 😘

Last night I found a YouTube channel that covers Reno-Sparks history & culture. One segment covered the Mountain View Cemetery in West Reno. So on my way over to the store today (on my electric converted motorcycle) I popped by to pay my respects and leave flowers on one internee's grave and to disrespect and spit on another internee's grave. Wells granite gravestone. On the left in a heart carving that says, "Devoted Mother, Evelyn G. Wells, Oct 18, 1911, Dec 16, 2004." A bar connects the heart on the left with one on the right. In the bar it says, "Our Birthday, Oct 18th." In the heart on the right it says, "Cherished Daughter, Dawn E. Wells, Oct 18, 1938, Dec 30, 2020." Under the heart on the left it says, "God Bless You, Love You Mama." Under the heart on the right it says, "I will call you when I get there." There are three photos inset on the gravestone of the two people buried in the plot. Notably, Dawn Wells was an actress best know for playing Mary Ann Summers in the sitcom Gilligan's Island. She was born in Reno, went to Reno High School, and was crowned Miss Nevada in 1959. She was in a couple of movies, a guest star in numerous TV shows, and did some theater work. Wells was involved in numerous humanitarian organizations. She died in 2020 of complications due to COVID.

At the bottom of the gravestone it says, Pat McCarran, 1876-1954, True Nevadan Statesman, Champion of Faith." McCarran's name is plastered all over Nevada, however, his history would suggest his name should be relegated to a rollcall of people without honor. Although a Democrat, McCarran opposed Roosevelt's New Deal. He was rabidly anti-communist & supported the Third Reich over the Soviet Union. During hearings for Felix Frankfurter, the first Jew nominated to the SCOTUS, McCarran "launch a nasty, sneering attack..filled with innuendo about Frankfurter's foreign origins & alleged radical associations." "McCarran intervened to shield a teenager from Nevada who stole 150 volumes from the Library of Congress & mutilated hundreds of books." McCarran opposed "federal health insurance & increased education spending; favored restricting the power of unions; was opposed to increased immigration, saying he did not want 'undesirables from abroad' coming to America; & was against the United Nations, which he called 'a haven for spies & Communists'." McCarran supported Republican Sen. Joseph McCarthy's anti-communist crusades. It goes on and on. McCarran would have been welcomed by the Republican Party of the 21st century, & he would have likely been a strong supporter of our current president. What a POS he was.
