Amazing 😳

It’s not every day that you get name checked on an album that’s number 1 in the UK midweek album charts🙀

Let alone it being a 42 minute, two track prog concept album about the cosmic perspective that considering the vastness of space brings to our ephemeral lives ✨

Kudos to Steven Wilson for the stunning music – it’s a privilege to be involved along with my good friend, @alexandermilas 🙇‍♂️

Coming at 1800CET/1700GMT today: conversation about Jeff Wayne’s “The War of the Worlds” as it goes out on tour & the possibility of life on Mars.

With Sara Russell of the Natural History Museum & me on the science, Dave Rowntree of Blur, Brian Cox, & my #SpaceRocks co-founder @alexandermilas talking with Jeff about his classic album, plus Rou Reynolds of Enter Shikari who’s in the new show.

Was a fun day in London with Alex et al who made the film 🖖🤘

I'm busy with a creative project of my own (more of which soon), but just a quick one to flag the release Steven Wilson's space-inspired album "The Overview" yesterday ✨

I've had it for a few weeks & it's brilliant – immersive epic prog with zero pandering to the nano-attention span, oh so knowing world of streamed sludge 🙇‍♂️

It was a privilege to be part of the album premiere event at the BFI IMAX in London & I'm proud of the #SpaceRocks connection – thanks, Steven 🖖🤘

In London this week for a few events & meetings, some of which I can't talk about yet (ooh, mystery! 🤪)

But this one's public – I'll be at the British Film Institute this evening for a premiere of Steven Wilson's new space-inspired album "The Overview", with visuals on the IMAX screen.

We'll have a panel discussion after with Steven, the film maker Miles, my ESA colleague Miho, & my #SpaceRocks compadre, Alex.

Tonight is sold out, but there are more dates in Europe before the album tour 🖖🤘

Heads up (literally, if you’re in the South Pacific) 👀

At ~18:48UTC / 20:48CEST tomorrow, 8 Sep, the first of the four ESA Cluster II satellites, Salsa, will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere, bringing an effective end to the constellation’s 24-year mission to probe our magnetosphere & its interactions with the solar wind.

I’ll be back at ESOC in Darmstadt, helping film this sad but celebratory moment for a documentary coming soon from #SpaceRocks 🖖🤘

If you’re in the neighbourhood of the Randstad on Sunday 6 October, consider spending it with us at the annual ESA ESTEC Open Day 🚀🛰️🛸🔭🪐☄️✨👩‍🚀👨‍🚀

Lots to see & do linked to space science & technology, & many astronauts to meet, after the Association of Space Explorers get-together in Noordwijk that week.

I’ll be back there with #SpaceRocks & our friend Steven Strait aka James Holden of #TheExpanse will be too 🦠

Tickets are free, but limited 👇

www.esa.intESA Open Day at ESTEC 2024: Registration openNow’s your chance to meet astronauts, view spacecraft and peer behind the scenes of Europe’s space adventure at our ESA Open Day at ESTEC in the Netherlands on Sunday 6 October from 10:00 to 17:00. Registration is now open.

Ha – that’s no asteroid 🤪

Rewatching S1 of #TheExpanse from 2016 & am further reminded how obviously influenced the production team was by Rosetta’s adventures at Comet 67P/C-G over the preceding two years 🙂👍

What goes around comes around though, as at #SpaceRocks, we’ve since worked with Dominique Tipper, Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, & the writers, James SA Corey 🙂

Stay tuned for more science meets science fiction 🖖🤘

And if you enjoyed that stunning Olympics performance by Gojira & the Headless Maries,
then I can but recommend that you take a watch of the #SpaceRocks #Uplink livestream we did during the pandemic with Gojira front man, Joe Duplantier 🖖🤘

We also had Hayley Evers-King from EUMETSAT on the show & much of the conversation was about Joe’s interest in environmental issues 🙇‍♂️
