Emeritus Prof Christopher May<p>Its a strange world where the UK's Govt. is seeking to 'streamline' the planning process for the landing point of the world's longest subsea <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/electricity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electricity</span></a> cable to underpin a 25 year deal to import <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/solar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>solar</span></a> generated electricity from <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/Morocco" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Morocco</span></a>, at the same time that it does little to ease the planning for <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/onshorewind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>onshorewind</span></a> &amp; (through a lack of flexibility) undermines new <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/offshorewind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>offshorewind</span></a> projects...</p><p>That said, at this stage the project may never get going if the financing doesn't materialise!</p>
Emeritus Prof Christopher May<p>So it looks like there have been no bidders in the latest round for <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/offshorewind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>offshorewind</span></a> licences/support packages (because the package took no account of the industries soaring costs, like to UK's current <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/inflation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>inflation</span></a>), while the <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/onshorewind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>onshorewind</span></a> 'relaxation' has been a damp squib, with few thinking its going to re-invigorate the onshore wind sector..</p><p>To be frank its like the Govt. isn't really interesting in <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/renewableenergy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>renewableenergy</span></a>... </p><p>Oh hold on.... aren't the <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/Tories" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tories</span></a> in the pockets of the <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/fossilfuel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fossilfuel</span></a> firms?</p>
